another "INTELLIGENT ENERGY SAVER" tested and opened
Today I test one more "Electricity saving box", also called "Intelligent energy saver" or "Power factor saver". It comes from eBay for about 4 USD including shipping. Let's see what's inside this scam device. Let's also do some measurements and calculations.
After a long time, one more crappy unedited shaky blurry video that makes everyone unsubscribe. Showing my old homemade intercom, explaining the schematic, some improvements and also some random thoughts on the downsides of too complex electronics.

Today, let's investigate another 3 good looking, but still relatively cheap 3.7V 18650 Li-Ion rechargeable batteries from Ebay. They are rated 2500mAh, 3000mAh and 3400mAh. What's the actual capacity?

Unboxing, testing and opening a GC-01 nuclear radiation detector from Fnirsi. It uses a Geiger counter tube. Showing how to use it, testing it using various mildly radioactive objects and exploring what's inside. The battery can last for about 11 hours.

Test and teardown of 3 more Chinese electric shock prank toys. A lighter, a chewing gum and a laser pointer. All of them give you an electric shock when you try to use them. The chip drives the high voltage boost transformer at 100Hz. The output has 300V peak voltage and a current up to 4mA. Warning: These devices may be dangerous.

Testing and opening this odd charger from Kaufland supermarket. It can charge 2 or 4 cells, NiMH or NiCd, AA or AAA. It can run on AC mains voltage or 12V DC. Including a partial schematic and oscilloscope waveforms.
Correction: the package says it can charge AA with capacity over 700mAh and AAA over 400mAh. The charging currents are 700mA for AA and 350mA for AAA.

Test and teardown of another 75 cent Chinese LED light bulb from Ebay. This time it is a corn type called 9W, but the actual power is 3.3W. Again, thanks to the Ebay trick, I've got this one for only 75 cents. The listings usually have heaps of options. One option or combination of options is super cheap to get the listing to the top of the search results when sorted the cheapest first. It this case, the super cheap combination was this 9W LED in warm white option, 220V option and B22 socket option. All the other combinations were $2.50. This lightbulb with 3.3W actual power is not so bad; it is so far my most powerful 75 cent LED :). But I don't like the fact that it doesn't have any fuse or fusible resistor (fire hazard). The filter capacitor is only 2.2uF, so it flickers a lot. It has a capacitor dropper with 680n 400V capacitor. There are 30 LED packages in series. Each package has 3 LEDs in parallel.
