Our trip of Remembrance from 24-27 Sept 2021 to Perth/Ottawa was truly fabulous among comrades from the Canadian Veteran Freedom Riders (LRRP) Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol from Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, once known as CVFR Meaford. Our motorcycles were packed and ready but the weather was not cooperating and a quick decision was made to take a few vehicles, leaving our motorcycles behind. Safety being paramount!
We departed at 07:00 hrs on Fri, 24 Sep from Owen Sound to the Perth Plaza Motel, our staging area. That night we visited the Royal Canadian Legion, sharing great riding stories wishing our motorcycles were with us on this trip. The next morning being Sat, 25 September we departed for Ottawa spending 4 hours touring the Canadian War Museum, before returning to the Royal Canadian Legion in Perth to meet up with our CVFR National President, Treasurer and comrades from CVFR Trent Hills and CVFR Ottawa for the Ride for Veterans event. Afterwards CVFR Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound met up with our CVFR National President Smokey and our CVFR National Treasurer Hillary for a great supper and camaraderie at the Locks restaurant in Perth, Ontario.
On our return to the Motel, CVFR Trent Hills welcomed us like we were long lost brothers. The camaraderie was so enjoyable that we hope to plan a centralized national CVFR trip in 2023, bringing together CVFR members from as many units as possible. Manitoulin Island is one thought that came to mind. We called it an early night in preparation for our departure to Ottawa the next morning and wished our comrades from CVFR Trent Hills, a safe ride.
We were off at 07:00 on Sun, 26 Sep back to Ottawa to visit our fallen comrades at the Canadian National Military Cemetery. We will remember them! Our next visit took us to Parliament Hill, the National War Memorial, Peacekeepers Park, before stopping for lunch. We headed back to our Motel in Perth afterwards, knowing that our trip of remembrance was coming to a close. We left our Motel in Perth at 05:00 hrs on Mon, 27 Sep back to Owen Sound. The Canadian Veteran Freedom Riders is truly a great riding club with amazing units across Canada, who come together with the highest respect and camaraderie.
A special thank you to our CVFR Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound planning committee members for this trip, Mark aka Medic & Bill aka Bugs for the route planning, Mike aka Static-Line for the tour planning and Roger aka Excalibur, our photos/film producer. Lastly, thanks to all our bothers and sisters in CVFR for welcoming us.
