Do this movement to gain flexibility and control of the muscles of the back of your trunk, six slow repetitions. This is more than an abdominal crunch or a sit-up; that's only half the movement. The other half is arching backward.

Aiming: To determine your working position of the bent-knee leg, lift your head, press your knee and ankle down, and slowly draw the bent knee toward your side. Stop at any position of discomfort in your inner thigh, hip, buttock, or back. That's your working position. Locate the working position afresh each time you do this movement sequence.
S-I Joint trouble comes from unevenly distributed weight-bearing stresses through the legs and pelvis. Those stresses may involve the thigh adductors (inner muscles) and other muscles surrounding the hip joints.
To bring comfort to S-I joints, it's necessary to balance those weight-bearing stresses, left-and-right. This action pattern is one of a series of movements to train muscles/movement memory. It leads into another movement pattern from the program, Free Your Psoas: "Walking into the Floor", which is the heart of that program and which deals with deep muscular stresses of the groin, pelvis, and spine.

Walking Into the Floor is the third somatic education exercise of the self-relief program, Free Your Psoas, and part of Unit 2 of Comfort Your S-I Joints.
This exercise coordinates and frees the psoas muscles, front of the thighs, and back muscles in movement patterns similar to walking. It integrates the core musculature of the pelvis and trunk as well as the superficial muscles commonly referred to as "core" -- the abdominals.
As with all somatic education programs, this exercise depends for its effectiveness upon good results with the preceding somatic education exercises, Locating the Center of Breathing and Slide and Turn (which distinguishes the psoas muscles from the neighboring and more superficial gluteus minimus and rectus femoris muscles).
