2/6/2014 Geordi and Riker Talk to the Pakeds, or Bill Nye Talks to Folks in Kentucky
I wasn't going to spend nearly the entire program reviewing the Ham/Nye debate, but that's what I ended up doing. In the process we figured out the best analogy for Nye's attitude toward Kentuckians: that of Riker to the Pakleds on Star Trek the Next Generation! We even played a clip for those who are not familiar with that, uh, story line. Anyway, an entire hour of discussion of worldviews and the like on today's DL. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjR0UemGnT0
Had more streaming problems today (yes, we are considering outside interference, but for now, there really isn’t much we can do about it) so we recorded the program again. Spent most of the time looking at Colossians 2:5-7 and what it means to be stable, grounded, disciplined, and what this means in our present context. Then we took a little walk down memory lane using Bibles from my library, Bibles going all the way back to my first Bible, given to me on my seventh birthday. I don’t know when we will have another program, not because of the net issues, but because I leave next Tuesday for Germany. It is doubtful I will have time to do much over there, but you never know! Talked a bit about the odd interaction Mormonism is having with the LGBTQ movement, and then covered some of the crack-down on religions (both Christianity and Islam) in China. Then I played a few minutes from a fellow named “Polight” wherein he gets all confused about the Virgin Birth. Then we took calls on such subjects as John Piper on future justification, apologetic methodologies, and the concept of “mystery” in apologetics. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

We welcomed John Samson as our first guest host in more than ten years on the show today with a presentation on the Law and the Gospel.

I actually spent a few minutes at the start to acknowledge the ground-shaking “let’s make Obergefell look small time” absurdity that came forth from Neil Gorsuch and the Supreme Court this morning, but only to say that we would focus upon that tomorrow. The rest of the program (from about seven minutes in as I recall) is addressed to my Muslim friends—those with whom I have debated, done dialogues, corresponded, etc. I addressed the comments made recently by Dr. Yasir Qadhi and Dr. Shabir Ally regarding the textual history of the Qur’an and, by implication, the need to engage in textual critical studies, just as we do with the New Testament. My hope is that these comments will lead for further discussions that will shed more light upon the issues that separate us. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Covered a lot of topics including Don Lemon’s comments from 2013 (and how I said the exact same thing in 2016), as well as his “Jesus wasn’t perfect” comments from yesterday. Looked at a new X-Ray map of the universe, and finished up looking at the future of Mormonism. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

I guess inerrancy was the theme in looking at just a few portions of the discussion between Peter Williams and Bart Ehrman on Justin Brierley's Unbelievable program and then Mike Licona's discussion with Richard Howe. After that we tried to sneak callers in for the last 15 minutes...and ended up going half an hour, so, 75 minutes total. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

I can’t tell you how long I’ve been dreaming about today! I am on day #1 of 22 on the road. Today was a big, big test, with some of the longest, steepest climbs in all of my trip. I did not know, until today, if our truck/5th wheel combination would handle today (the unit would be heavy due to having a lot of supplies for the trip in it). Well, all went well, and I am ecstatic. Then we used our own in-unit WiFi for the program and—not a single hiccup! I know some places will throw us curves, but today was encouraging and exciting!
Started off with a little report on the trip, of course, then talked a bit about Jason Lisle’s new book, Fractals, The Secret Code of Creation https://biblicalscienceinstitute.com/product/fractals/ . Do not stop, do not pass go, click on the link and get your copy! Then we talked about the continuing weaponization of science and medicine (by the way, I need to spend some time talking about how the Christian worldview prohibits such things and provides a moral and ethical foundation for the practice of science and medicine, a foundation denied by modern secularism) before moving on to examining a brief clip from Dr. Jarvis Williams from 2018 about “whiteness” in academia. Then we got into looking at Calvin in light of his having been cited in the debate last week with Jake Brancatella. We read through Institutes I:XIII:15-17, and we will pick up from there on the program tomorrow, Lord willing! Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Did a quick report on my trip “down under,” then opened the phones and covered a pretty wide variety of topics from callers for the rest of the hour. And no, I don’t remember all of them. You will have to listen to find out!
