Today, I'm going to be exploring the science of azo dyes. This class of dyes is one of the most popular and it is used to dye clothing in a unique way. It is based on a reaction known as "azo coupling" where two dye components are developped directly on/in the textile fibers.
The Para Red is not the best though and it is very prone to rubbing off and washing away. Because of this, other dyes are often used instead. Also, I used only one dye here, but combinations can sometimes be used to increase the vibrancy and "richness" of the color.
In this video, picric acid is produced from phenol. However, salicylic acid or acetyl-salicylic acid can also be used.

For this video, I attempt to turn toxic and nasty paint thinner into some beautiful and amazing tasting cherry soda. If I am successful, I can add it to my soda collection, along with my plastic glove grape soda!

I am poor, but I managed to scrape some funds together to buy a Panasonic GH4, which shoots in 4K. So from now on, Ill be filming in 4K. I have 17 videos filmed using my other camera, the Canon 6D, so what is released will be a mix of 4K and 1080p for a little bit.
This is a shot of when I made bromine a few days ago using MnO2/H2SO4. The first video using my new camera.

About a year ago, I saw one of the weirdest reactions that I've ever seen. It was called the Belousov-Zhabotinsky reaction and it's one of the few good examples of an oscillating chemical reaction. I decided to try and do it myself, and this video summarizes the process that I used.
*At the 5min mark, I say 1.5g phenanthroline monohydrate, but 5g is written. It is indeed 1.5g though.

What I have here is a balloon filled with oxygen and hydrogen, and I'm gonna light it on fire - WARNING: Mixtures of oxygen and hydrogen gas are explosive and extremely dangerous. This experiment was performed in a controlled environment. Please don't recreate what I do!

Today I've decided to singe my eyeballs. To do this, I just have to mix some powdered magnesium metal with some dried silver nitrate. Now, I just have to splash it with a speck of water.

Today I will be making and testing an insecticide called DDT, which has been internationally banned for agricultural and consumer use. It was agreed that it should only be used for controlling diseases like malaria. Some countries do still use it for agriculture though, against better judgement.

Warning: This is not a video on distillation, but I still I warn you not to distill flammable solvents in a poorly ventilated area!
In this video I will be showing you how I went about building my own pot still. The purpose of this video is to give an idea of what goes into making one. Keep in mind that this is my own design and there are bound to be design flaws. There are definitely improvements that can be made.
