Odie is afraid and cries because he is unable to walk past the puppy, despite the fact that he is older and a lot bigger than the puppy. Animals can be quite amazing sometimes. Despite the fact that it seems absurd for a dog to be afraid of a puppy, apparently it is rather common for dogs to be afraid of all sorts of things if they are a little uncertain. It makes sense, of course, since evolution encourages each generation to pass along the genes that allowed them to successfully reproduce. For a dog, it pays to be cautious. If a dog does not really know what something is, it makes sense for it to be afraid. Even a puppy can theoretically be dangerous to another dog if that dog has some sort of medical condition that can be transmitted. As such, perhaps some of the caution that Odie displays in the video actually makes sense. It is okay for a dog to be afraid of another dog, or a duck, or a small toy. Dogs are cautious and afraid of a lot of things, whereas cats tend to be natural fighters. I do agree with some of Graham's ideas, such as using a 30 year mortgage to provide more of a cushion to handle both good and bad times when paying off a mortgage. Graham Stephan believes in “long term investing,” which means that after he buys a particular asset, he does not want to sell it for 20-30 years. This applies to real estate and stocks and cryptocurrencies. 2. The reason why Graham believes in long term investing is because he believes that it is not possible to “time the market.” However, I would argue that it is indeed possible to time the market for big moves, especially when you are in a very severe bear market in cryptocurrencies and stocks. I would argue that claiming that it is not possible to “time the market” is mostly a lazy analysis and an inability to carefully look at the chart. 3. Graham believes in “dollar cost averaging in stocks,” which means continuing to buy day after day, or month after month, regardless of what the stock market are doing. The only problem with this strategy is if the asset will be down for a significant period of time. While Graham may have the fortitude to keep investing, a lot of people will grow tired and give up on an asset that declines significantly and does not recover over a period of time. 4. Graham believes in using diversified index investing with a low cost structure like Vanguard. 5. Graham likes to keep a comfortable level of his assets in cash in the event that a “good deal” comes about—which he hasn’t quite explained. I believe he keeps the cash in the event that stocks crash spectacularly and/or there is a good real estate opportunity he wants to take advantage of. 6. If you buy real estate, Graham believes you should get a 30 year mortgage at the best interest rate possible. The reason for this is because if the interest rate is low enough, eventually inflation will partly help to pay for the home since your income should go up, while the low interest will remain the same. 7. Graham does not believe one should buy coffee at Starbucks because you can get it at home for around 20 cents. However, one thing Graham has not considered is that one can sometimes be more productive at Starbucks than at home and this might be a good reason to pay for the higher cost of drinking coffee at Starbucks than at home. 8. Graham believes in using credit cards that provide free money for signing up or extra travel benefits. This is contrary to Dave Ramsey, who thinks that it is “impossible” to outsmart multibillion companies. 9. Graham believes in “house hacking,” where one buys a duplex, lives in one unit and rents out the others. This can make ownership a lot more accessible than if one bought other types of property. 10. Graham left the state of California due to the high tax system. 11. Graham believes in doing work where you can be rewarded for high performance or by achieving objective results. This is one reason why he liked working as a real estate agent, since the pay was based strictly upon the commissions from the sale of real estate. 12. Graham started a coffee company, but he admitted that it is not that profitable considering the amount of time and money that he invested in it.
