And yes, I have a little projector under my silk that I use to project my moth design outline. Then I turn it off and go freehand for everything else. Here's a new painting, a bigger more detailed piece than the others I've posted here. It's kind of a long video - it took ages to paint, hence the wardrobe change and time of day lighting shifts. About the process: I use a water-based resist (also called gutta) to draw the outlines as the first step, and then mix colors of silk dyes and use sumi brushes to paint in the colors. I sprinkle salt on some sections to give it a raindroppy visual texture. Painted on 100% crepe de chine silk. Next it will be steamed to set the colors, now that it's all done.
