This is my "whats in my backback for winter" hiking. It differs from my three season mostly in that I use a larger backpack that is sufficiently sized to hold my home-made underquilt (video on how to make on my channel), and some additional clothing and sleep gear.
The topo map I mentioned in the video for red river gorge and sheltowee trail is available at https://www.outragegis.com/ I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just love their maps.

This has been a strange weather year. The forest floor still looks like winter in northern kentucky. In previous years I usually start finding morel mushrooms the first or second week of April. By now, all my fruit trees are normally bloomed, this year hardly any are. I was honestly surprised to find any hunting today, assuming our 3 days of nearly 80 degree weather made the ground too warm but we had a rain yesterday and cooler tempts today and over the next few days could make a change for morel mushrooms and maybe this year wont be a washout after all.
Anyways, enjoy this mushroom hunting tips & tricks and passing some knowledge along how I hunt them to educate those new to hunting morels.

I'm not a gamer and this is the first game I've played in a year .... but i mentioned i was playing a game that i bought today on sale for $1.99 on Nintendo estore called Inside. And im sharing with you why? Cause its a lot of fun and involves problem solving which is somewhat related to the content of this video .... answering why men have so much junk laying around.
About the game....Its a fun strategy problem solving game with a creepy apocalyptic background where you have to figure out how to get past obstacles .... people attacking you but you can't fight, dogs chasing you, starting a diesel engine in a farm barn, defeating pigs trying to kill you. For 1.99 on sale, ive wasted nearly 3 hours playing it.
In this video though, i show you how my pile of junk, just one of many, is used to fix a Samsung microwave that broke this morning while fixing breakfast. For free, assuming you have a pile of junk too, or for 31 cents and gas and time, you could fix this same problem. Most of the stuff i do on the homestead is simply problem solving. To learn to be more self sufficient, you have to know how to solve problems.

I do a very quick langstroth bee hive inspection using minimal smoke and also add sugar syrup. My goal is always to be in and out quickly. Notice how calm the bees are.

I bought several gen1 night vision googles that were pretty much junk and then I found these made by creative xp and available on amazon. These things are awesome and can do night vision in full color, black and white, etc. When you see in the video a glare, it is most likely me adjusting the ir from low to high but for the most part there was enough ambient light to leave the ir off. These would be great for hunting or to have in a edc kit, ghb, etc. or to simply have around the homestead to help dealing with predators .... in this day and age, you never know.
