It follows the story of a rowdy fraternity, Delta Tau Chi, at fictional Faber College in the early 1960s. The film revolves around the misadventures of the fraternity members as they clash with the college administration and the rival fraternity, Omega Theta Pi. The main protagonist, a freshman named Larry Kroger (nicknamed "Pinto"), decides to join the Delta Tau Chi fraternity after being convinced by his best friend, Kent Dorfman ("Flounder"). Pinto and Flounder quickly get immersed in the chaotic and rebellious lifestyle of the fraternity, led by the charismatic but irresponsible John "Bluto" Blutarsky.
