2.3 Million Users Infected With Malware From Hacked ‘CCleaner’ Software
Over 2.3 million users have been infected with Malware from a hacked version of the CCleaner application – an application designed to optimize and enhance a computer’s performance.
Users who downloaded or updated CCleaner between August 15 and September 12 this year are being urged to remove or update the program immediately.
Thehackernews.com reports: Security researchers from Cisco Talos discovered that the download servers used by Avast to let users download the application were compromised by some unknown hackers, who replaced the original version of the software with the malicious one and distributed it to millions of users for around a month.
This incident is yet another example of supply chain attack. Earlier this year, update servers of a Ukrainian company called MeDoc were also compromised in the same way to distribute the Petya ransomware, which wreaked havoc worldwide.
Avast and Piriform have both confirmed that the Windows 32-bit version of CCleaner v5.33.6162 and CCleaner Cloud v1.07.3191 were affected by the malware.

President Trump is planning to sign an executive order that will allocate enough funds to build the border wall and avoid another government shutdown.
According to WaPo, Trump will use the order to reallocate federal funds to finance the wall – or at least something more than the 55 miles that the compromise bill would finance.

Forbes recently released its rankings of “The World’s Most Powerful People,” and the results don’t look good for President Barack Obama.
As the president enjoys his last few weeks as commander in chief, his approval and respect have seemingly diminished significantly, as his place on Forbes’ list dropped dramatically from last year.
In 2015, Obama came in as the third most powerful person, which wasn’t great, considering he is supposed to be the leader of the free world. But it was nevertheless much better than 2016’s list, which has him placed at an embarrassing number 48.
Last year, Forbes explained why the U.S. president wasn’t number one, or even number two.
“There’s no doubt that the United States remains the world’s greatest economic, cultural, diplomatic, technological and military power,” the publication wrote in 2015. “But as Obama enters the final year of his presidency, it’s clear his influence is shrinking, and it’s a bigger struggle than ever to get things done.”
