In this video we are exploring a variation of the iodine clock reaction that can be pretty easily done at home. There are load of different variations out there and I am going to explore another one in the near future.

This video was requested by a commenter...I don't remember who, but this video is for you! I went with the method of producing biodiesel, but you could also go with simple saponification (different procedure though).
The process is very slow and long. It is much easier to simply buy glycerol from the store. It would be much faster and much more pure than making it yourself.
Glycerine can be made from triglycerides in vegetable oils. Most bio-fats are stored as triglycerides which are made of 3 fatty acids and a glycerol backbone. This is the same method as making biodiesel from vegetable oil. where glycerine is normally considered a by-product.

Note: In my equation for ZnS + O2, please ignore my explanation below it. It doesn't make sense.
Ever since I was a kid, I've been fascinated by things that glow in the dark. I had a few glow toys that I really liked, but I either lost them or gave them away. I could've just bought some new ones, but I thought it would be a lot more fun to make my own from scratch.

REUPLOADED AND FIXED (i hope)
Happy New Years Eve everyone!
In this video, we will be making some ammonia gas and condensing it to liquid ammonia. In a future video, this liquid ammonia is then used for a quick birch reduction of benzene.
I hope you guys enjoy!

What's cool about Brooker's Merocyanine is that it's solvatochromic. This means that the color it makes when it's dissolved, depends on the solvent.

In this video, bromine is made from pool supplies and muriatic acid (HCl).
The yield was around 75%. However, the amount of HCl used was much less than stoichiometric. I thought that this would reduce the possibility of HCl contamination in the final bromine product.

This is probably the longest video that I've ever posted on my channel, but I wanted it to be as complete as possible!
A few months ago, I saw a video made by AvE where he tried to make transparent wood. After seeing it, I was really interested in trying it out for myself, and well, I did.
This video was originally released on Patreon on Nov. 10, before I left to Japan for vacation. I will be back on the 23rd though!

This is an interesting reaction where two clear solutions are mixed, then after a period of time a sudden and drastic color change occurs.
I used the guide found at this link: http://www.nuffieldfoundation.org/practical-chemistry/iodine-clock-reaction

In this video we make and demonstrate the oxidizing power of piranha solution. Piranha solution is a 3:1 mixture of sulfuric acid to hydrogen peroxide.
NOTE: I used nitrile gloves in this video. It is recommended that you do not use nitrile, but instead use latex or vinyl gloves.
