Our lead story: As oil prices fell to near multi-year lows on Monday, the global excess of oil continues to weigh on the market. The price of crude has fallen more than 45% since the summer and even though demand has remained fairly moderate, oil producers from Saudi Arabia to the US have increased production. And now some of the nation’s top oil-producing states – including Texas, North Dakota, Alaska, Oklahoma, and New Mexico – are showing early signs of fatigue as a result of these plunging prices. Erin weighs in .

$58 million – that’s the amount Puerto Rico officially defaulted on. The commonwealth did not pay that million dollar sum of principal and interest it owes on Public Finance Corporation bonds. On Friday, the administration for Governor Alejandro Garcia Padilla said that the government simply does not have the money. And Greek stocks plummeted dramatically on Monday. Ameera David weighs in.

In light of protests across the country, IBM has announced that the company is stepping out of the facial recognition game after growing outrage surrounding the practice. The tech company penned a letter to Congress saying it will no longer offer general purpose facial recognition or analysis software. Meanwhile, the United States officially entered a recession in February, ending years of economic expansion. Plus, the oil sector slides with the ongoing global unrest and coronavirus pandemic. The OPEC+ members agree to cut oil production until the end of July.
