Stellaris: Distant Stars - Part XV - Space Habitats
I've not nowhere to expand to, and none of the neighbours look to be pushovers given by inability to support large fleets, so it's time to start building new homes for my citizens in deep space. Also, realizing that some of my refugees would be much happier living on an ocean world. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5sNOhkPeCU

Last Week the NASA Innovative Advanced Concepts (NIAC) program published the latest set of awards, funding technology investigations which may one day lead to new technologies, new missions or solve problems which might be required in future plans.
Most of these are just funding for the investigators to study the problem, do the math and make a presentation of the findings.

The Nuclear Salt Water Rocket is a rocket engine concept that uses a rapid nuclear reaction in a Uranium salt dissolved in water to create a high thrust, high efficiency engine which eclipses the performance of any rocket engine ever designed. It's a concept originally presented by Robert Zubrin, which is appealing because it looks more scientifically plausable than many other futuristic propulsion concepts.
It's also scary on so many levels, using a propellent that has to be stabilized by specially designed tanks, and relies on managing a small nuclear explosion with power outputs of hundreds of gigawatts.

And Atomic Rockets has a section on the device:

Oakland's Chabot Space And Science Center has a full scale Mercury capsule exhibit, but, it doesn't have a full scale Atlas rocket like the one which launched John Glenn. So I hit upon the idea of making a 1:1 scale drawing of this rocket - 96 feet tall, err long I mean. So that it could be seen from the air.
The entire drawing took about 3 hours with the help of volunteers, it was supposed to be temporary, but now we're discussing ways to make it a permanent exhibit.

Sure they could, but it would require vastly more work.
A Super Earth is a class of small terrestrial exoplanet which is 25%-100% larger in diameter than Earth. Many of these have been discovered and some are in the habitable zone of their parent starts. Which lead people to ask whether a civilization developing on these worlds might be trapped and unable to develop a space program
Using Universe Sandbox I show a few example Super Earths and then, in Kerbal Space Program we fly a massive rocket that can just escape.

With the TV show doing a great job at delivering its explanation in a manner that most people can easily understand, I felt I wanted to do a more detailed description. So I cover basic reactor physics, explain how the RBMK reactor works, how Xenon 135 works, Why the control rods included graphite tips, and why the reactor became unstable and ran away.
Many of the diagrams here are from https://www.nuclear-power.net and they have Lots more information on Nuclear Physics

And of course I highly recommend the TV show:

Space Planes are complicated beasts, so we need some serious testing. Before you launch a fully loaded spaceplane it's wise to test it when it's got almost no fuel so you can verify the stability for returning to the launch site.
