This arrangement of the song comes from my days with the band, The Venice Roasters. One night I was having dinner at a venue the Roasters used to play at. My buddy Pete was DJing there. I then heard a wonderful bossa nova version of Black Hole Sun. But my band wasn't specializing in Latin music. We were into doing gypsy jazz/western swing versions of classic rock and pop music. We used to call that treatment of a song, 'roasting.' I couldn't get away with the bossa nova version of Black Hole Sun without some sort of roast in it. So we added a roaster beat to the chorus. It's hella fun and we usually get a good response when we perform it.

Extracted from the Church Cadence (Plagal Cadence), IV to I, in the Blues, this cadence gets tweaked into IV7 to I7. There are many, many 'blues clues' embedded within this one cadence, so this video is packed with a lot of information run through pretty quickly. You have to have a handle on the previous Greek Modes concepts and the Major/Minor Key System concepts in order to fully get this. Bonus track: wait for it. At the end of the lecture I go into why I say that while Major and Minor Chords are male, Dominant 7th Chords are female. This will be a somewhat sexist and politically incorrect diatribe. (Hint: of the three chord types, 7th chords are the drama queens. And we know how often women either love or intentionally create...drama.) Just to stay on their good side--women of the world, I honor your inexplicable qualities! :D
