Boris Giller, one of the founders of 180 Smoke (http://www.180smoke.com) in conversation with Hugh Reilly and Sandra Kyrzakos on Liquid Lunch at http://ThatChannel.com
For those of the 4.2 million Canadian smokers planning to make their New Year resolution to kick the habit, e-cigarettes offer new hope for success. A British study published by Public Health England in August of this year, concluded that the current best estimate is that e-cigarettes are about 95% less harmful than smoking. Another UK study conducted by University College in London reported that “Smoking cessation rates in England have increased as e-cigarette use has increased.”
Since being introduced to the American market in 2007 (originally developed in China in 2003) e-cigarettes are increasingly being used to wean smokers off traditional cigarettes which contain thousands of chemicals including 400 carcinogens. It is important to note that most of these toxins are caused by combustion and are present in the tar. E-cigarettes don’t have tar, tobacco or carbon monoxide and only have four known ingredients - each individually approved by the FDA as safe to use.
Among the e-cigarette products in the Canadian market, one stands out. 180° Smoke, a Toronto-based national company that promotes tobacco and combustion harm reduction by the use of novel tools such as electronic cigarettes, electronic hookah and other combustion-free alternatives. 180° Smoke was founded by renowned Canadian cardiac surgeon, Dr. Gopal Bhatnagar to address smoking-related problems he was seeing in his patients. 180° Smoke adheres to the highest production standards. A resident biochemist ensures compliance with industry standards and purity of products. The company mandate is to cater to smokers looking to transition from smoking.
If you are interested in speaking with Dr. Gopal Bhatnagar, about some of the health issues around e-cigarettes, we will happily arrange. Dr. Bhatnagar is a Canadian cardiac surgeon, Entrepreneur and Public Health Advocate based in Toronto. Dr. Bhatnagar is the Head of Cardiovascular Surgery unit at the Trillium Health Centre, which he himself established in 2000. He teaches part-time at the University of Toronto and contributes to medical research.
Here are some statistics and how e-cigarettes help those who want to quit, succeed.
• The Forum Poll, a Canadian poll from December 2014 says that one-quarter to one-third of those using e-cigarettes to quit are successful and this realistically compares to what 180° Smoke has seen anecdotally from an internal customer poll: http://info.180smoke.ca/180-smoke-2013-review/
