Do You Love the Mona Lisa More Than Your Mom? Big Ideas Live! Recap with Sarah Skwire
Why is it so controversial when the government commissions art? Is it crazy to spend millions of dollars on a painting? What is the most valuable art you own? The answers to these questions, and what they can teach us about life and each other, might surprise you.
People constantly search for ways to improve their quality of life. Often times this requires relocating to new places. While relocation within the same country is considered acceptable, many oppose relocation when foreign nationals relocate to their country because foreigners "steal" jobs from local workers. Professor Benjamin Powell thinks this is not true. Immigrants improve their own lives, but they also have positive effects on the local economy: immigrants create new jobs for locals.
About the speaker: FEE Scholar Benjamin Powell is Director of The Institute for the Teaching and Study of Free Market Economics at Texas Tech, where he also teaches economics as visiting professor.
FEE President Lawrence W. Reed spoke to students attending Freedom Academy II in Atlanta, GA on July 30, 2010 about the important role character plays in the maintenance of freedom.
Professor Peter Boettke talks to students attending FEE summer seminars in 2006 about the past, present and future of Austrian Economics. For more information visit http://fee.org/
