Sorry *again* for the audio problems. I splashed out on some decent wireless microphones which, as it turns out, each hog a channel in stereo mode, so when only one is in use I need to select Mono mode. Now fixed, so Nigel and I should be clear as a bell in future vids!
As for this client, I will be writing to her tonight explaining why the invoice is what it is, and that I won't be doing any more work for her unless she's happy with my explanation and settles the bill in full. **Update** She accepted my explanation and has paid in full. Despite my expired ale hangover, I attended site to fit her bathroom fan and RCD spur so Phil could tick it all off his to-do list. I emailed over the invoice and certificate for that work and it was paid without question straight away so all's well that ends well. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EA33mFdb8-4
You’d think with that fruitcake in Russia determined to turn the world into a Mad Max-esque wasteland, there’d be better things to do with the day than to tune in to a couple of flatulent old white guys rubbing their trousers over test equipment that’s been shoved into a cardboard box at the back of a dark n’ dusty cupboard for the past twenty years. But here you are… and, frankly, I question your life choices.

Being “sent to Coventry” is a phrase with negative connotations the city doesn’t deserve, although one should really be able to stop off there for an unhealthy snack at an out-of-town shopping centre without fear of having one’s livelihood lifted from within the car park.
As for site Security, no I can’t view the CCTV, and as far as the filth go it’s all my own fault for not having tool insurance. They couldn’t even be arsed to give me a crime reference number because, presumably, they’re too busy scoffing doughnuts and coffee while sat in front of Twitter looking to jump on anyone who says anything they perceive as being racist.
As Robocop would say, “Somewhere a crime is happening”...
Yeah, it’s at Cannon Park Shopping Centre outside of friggin’ Tesco’s.
Somewhere this weekend, a car boot sale will open with some additional banged-up Makita power tools sitting on a pasting table along with a Bosch 360 laser and a Hioki tester that no knuckle-dragger in attendance will even begin to understand the function of. A sad end for a fine instrument.

Clench your buttocks and pucker up your sphincter in anticipation of the mystery celebrity guest joining me for yet another flimmin’ video half showing a consumer unit change and the replacement of some downlights… which we largely neglect to film despite yapping about it.
Who could it be? The chumminess of Delroy at Eastway Electrical? The genius of Joe Robinson? That Mike kid from the Residual Current channel who already sounds like he’s forgotten more than I’ll ever know??
Since we filmed this last year, SBS have launched a swish new website where you can register for a trade account and order spare parts or configured consumer units at https://www.sbstradesales.co.uk so if you’re a bona fide spark you may as well go open a trade account!
Eagle eyed viewers may spot at the 49:00 mark that there is a mislabelling on the consumer unit as some idiot misaligned the main switch label over the SPD. Pah!
My apologies, for all the talking in this video, there seems to be precious little showing the CU installed or any of the downlights going in. As electricians, our filmmaking skills are probably similar in quality to a filmmaker's electrics.

The problem with trying to make a practical effect where a spaceship explodes is that one cannot simply shove a firework up its bottom, light the blue touch paper and retire to a safe distance. Well, one could do that, but one would have to be damn sure it’s all going to go swimmingly on the first take, otherwise all the bits of plastic that just got shot to bits will have to be swept up and stuck back together for take two!
So, who knew it would be this much work? Well, I kinda did as this idea’s been in the back of my hangover for three years now, so I’m bloody glad something is finally edited and done. And let’s face it, I’m not Industrial Light and Magic here, just a lowly spark whose wasting his weekends desperately trying to make his electrical videos 11% more interesting by adding silly effects.
As for the number of takes, well this little lot ain’t even all of ‘em! And there were at least two occasions where I forgot to press Record. Laugh? Why, I nearly spilled my Pimms & lemonade!
Despite some flashy cameras, the best results were obtained from my Galaxy mobile phone which had to be placed under a sheet of glass while gravity did its thang and sprinkled debris down from on high. I was rather disappointed by my Insta360 camera whose output was… sludgier... than my Samsung.
The ‘navigation lights’ were driven by a 7400 quad two-input nand gate just because I already had one made up from a previous project, although a 555 timer would have been more suitable for the PP3 battery. The 7400 is TTL, so there’s a 5V regulator also on the backside of the model. As stated, the capacitors are switchable to give a fairly even flash rate whether filming at normal or high speed. The flyby shot uses a 200uF cap, the detonation shot uses a 22uF.
Lawks-a-lawdy, did I get through some 5A fusewire! And, may I say, not all fusewire is made equal. Some blew with a theatrical shower of sparks, other brands just kinda fizzled and melted.
Of the three candidate takes, I initially went with number one, however that video got copyright stomped by YT because of the Tardis sound employed near the end of the video. Some asshole has apparently used it in a music track, so heaven forfend if anyone else ever thinks of using it! While editing to change that sound, I figured Candidate 2 was perhaps a better choice and went with that. Now the more I look at it, the more I think Candidate 3 should have been awarded the job. Still, I can’t be arsed to edit it further now. The missus is threatening to leave me if I don't stop pratting about with little spaceships!
Anyway, do enjoy seeing a mackerel tin blow up about a hundred times. The wife and I sure enjoyed it when Take 117 was underway at 1:00 AM last Sunday morning. Oh yes.

Amy the Spark (34) came to visit me in August for a little play on my ol’ test rig and we figured if we were going to prat about doing that, we may as well do it with the TIS MFT Eco, the new lower cost sister model to my MFT Pro. In the end, we were at it for so damn long, we ended up with hours of footage that I’ve had to split over three videos and poor Amy barely gets a word in edgeways in any of them!

The smut is strong in this one, what with bending springs, couplers, talk of ‘length’ and even a badly packed kebab all showing up in the kind of fnarr-fnarr way that would have Sid James vigorously rubbing his flared trousers. But seriously folks, electrical fault finding is no laughing matter as this poorly presented vlog proves.
Yes, sometimes one simply cannot find the electrical fault, even if one knows where said fault may be lurking. Here, it seems to be a recent failure of a cable buried in the wall when the property was built back around 2007, but why that failure has come about now one cannot say without knocking out the brickwork. Instead, some idiot has to figure out how to get a new supply around some comical plumbing in order to get the garage back on the grid.
So, bring in a bloke who seemingly doesn’t know one end of a bending spring from his own dick-spring and maybe do yourself a favour by saving eighteen minutes of your life not watching this.
After all, and spoiler alert, the fault doesn’t actually get found!

What’s that you say? You want a boring video about a water heater featuring a plumber and just enough male nudity to get it demonetised? Well, you’re in luck friend, because I have just the thing for you right here. So, pull up the blankets, grip the hot water bottle and let uncle David send you off to sleep… albeit perhaps not too soundly.
Personally, I can’t believe I found a good use for Nigel’s head in this one, but it does actually work rather well as a virtual loincloth. Who knew?
I know it’s been a while since the last upload; September placed a few demands on my personal time which precluded me from faffing about with the video editor, but other stuff will be forthcoming as autumn ambles along. Sorry too if you’re patiently waiting for your coffee shoutout. We recorded one on 19th August for our I.R.SEHOLES video, then this one on the 24th, but many more have landed since then. Rest assured; your time will soon come; more is in edit right now!
The water heater installed here is an Ariston 30 Litre 2.5kW model I bought from CEF:
https://www.cef.co.uk/catalogue/products/4882594-30-litre-2-5kw-eco-unvented-oversink-water-heater-with-installation-kit
I (somewhat mistakenly) refer to it more than once as an instantaneous water heater… which it isn’t. It doesn’t heat on demand; it maintains a small-(ish) 30 litre tank. When that’s been drained, it’s gone mate, and I’ll jolly well have to wait for it to re-heat a whole new tankful from cold. What it does do is take up less space, delivers better pressure and it maintains the warm water more efficiently than the old tank.
The energy monitor shown in this video will (supposedly) feature in another one which is partly recorded and talks more about its construction and purpose. For anyone interested, it can be found at this affiliate link: https://amzn.to/3fNAOgF
This video was originally only half an hour long and was supposed to go out last Tuesday, but then I decided to complicate my life by adding about a million slides describing how immersion heaters work, hence the discrepancy at the 45-minute mark where I say it’s only been thirty minutes long and was useless. Now it’s much longer, albeit still useless.
Oh, and no, I don’t ordinarily sit down to wee out the Carlsberg; it was just practical here as I waffled to the camera. That said, perhaps I should as sometimes when assuming the upright pose the spray goes simply everywhere! You know how it is, right fellas? I especially feel guilty when it jets off at an impossible angle and somehow sprinkles in foamy golden droplets over the wife’s toothbrush, but I dare not tell her that happens… or how often.
I’m sure I speak both for myself and for you out there watching by saying we’ve all personally experienced this many a time… I certainly have.
