It’s time for Boom Bust. We’re taking a look at a variety of stuff today. Trump looks to trade with a tariff that could set off a trade war while sanctions and Taiwanese arms deals and North Korea sanctions test the U.S.-China relationship. Alex Mihailovich talks about travel bans as Canadian lawmakers standby at airports as Trump’s new travel ban goes into effect. We’re also joined by Hadley Heath Manning from the Independent Women’s Foundation to talk all about the new Senate healthcare bill. That and more on Boom Bust.
Our lead story: The job numbers came out this past Friday, and while they weren't abysmal they do point to a potential shift in the job market. Since 2009, more than 1/10 of all job growth has been in the short term staffing industry, otherwise known as "temp jobs." Erin takes a look.
Then, Erin sits down with economist Max Fraad Wolff to get his take on the March job numbers. It doesn't look terrible, but he points to wage growth as a crucial measure that doesn't look very promising. After the break, Erin talks to author and investor Daniel Alpert on his view on why global overcapacity is affecting US labor markets. Tune in to find out what he has to say.
In the Big Deal, Edward Harrison and Erin talk about the wages, jobs, and unemployment and how it fits in to our post-recession recovery.

Tuesday is here and Boom Bust is ready! The U.S. has posted the biggest increase in retail sales in seventh months. Could it mean a rally for retailers? Prof. Steve Keen is back on the show and we’re looking a long legacy of financial troubles as we look back and examine the lessons learned from the worst financial crisis to hit the globe since the Great Depression. Bitcoin hit record highs as the cryptocurrency soared above $4000. We brought in Reggie Middleton, the founder of Veritaseum to break down these record highs and where we can go from there. That and more on Boom Bust!

Our lead story: Our lead story today is the US jobs report. The unemployment rate fell to a 6-year low of 5.8% and non-farm payrolls increased by 214,000 in October. This marks the 49th consecutive month of net job creation, the longest stretch of job creation since the 1930s. But despite the positive headline, underneath weak wage growth remains, as average hourly earnings are up only 2.0% in the last year. Erin weighs in.
Then, Erin is joined by Nick Rowe, Professor of Economics at Ottawa's Carleton University. We break down the terms used all too frequently by the central banks of the world like quantitative easing and forward guidance. And Nick tell us why he’s not too bothered about high household indebtedness in Canada.
After the break, is our Defining Moments segment, where we take a look back at some of the best moments from our Boom Bust guests. In today's Defining Moments, Karl Denninger tells us what impact zero rates and quantitative easing have had on the economy, John Mauldin tells us what to think about a rising US dollar, and Gerald Celente cautions that sanctions should be considered an act of war and hearkens back to World War II to explain why.
And in The Big Deal, Erin and Edward Harrison are talking Japan. The Bank of Japan has taken a massive amount of assets onto its balance sheet relative to other major central banks. Will this work to stop the rot? We are skeptical. Take a look.
