None of the couples in the study had a partner who ‘got HIV’. Seroconversion means testing positive for HIV because of the presence of antibodies, meaning that you’re ‘protected against a virus’ or disease. But with HIV, if you have antibodies, they will tell you that you’re infected. Yes, really. Psychological factors are critical in supporting immune function. If you suppress this psychological support by telling someone he’s condemned to die, your words alone will have condemned him.
