According to a new book, Republican Presidential candidate Jeb Bush was a cocaine user while governor of Florida, even as he was backing tough drug laws there. The book, which will be published next week is called: “Jeb: and the Bush Crime Family”. It was synopsized in a political blog called “The Political Insider” and published today. The book was co-authored by two characters who don’t have the best reputations: Roger Stone and Saint John Hunt. Stone brags that he was President Nixon’s dirty tricks specialist, and even has been photographed with a huge tattooed picture of Richard Nixon across his back. Hunt is the son of infamous Watergate figure E. Howard Hunt. According to Stone, Jeb’s drug use started when he was in prep school in the late 1960’s at the Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts. Although Bush made the honor by the end of his senior year at Andover and was the captain of the tennis team, Stone claims he was a heavy dope smoker: “… and even a dealer in prep school and college. He started out early on a path many young people do, but what makes him a phony is his tough stance against drugs as an elected official and a politician.” Although many in his family had attended Yale University, Bush chose to attend the University of Texas at Austin, beginning in Sept. 1977. He played on the Texas Longhorns varsity tennis team in 1973 and graduated Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude is just 2 and a half years with a B.A. in Latin American studies. In 1974, Bush took a job at Texas Commerce bank and was sent to Venezuela to open a new branch of the bank, serving as branch manager and one of the bank’s vice-presidents. In 1987, Jeb Bush was appointed Secretary of Commerce for the State of Florida by Governor Bob Martinez. Bush resigned that post in Sept. 1988 to work on his father’s presidential campaign. After his father’s inauguration on January 20, 1989 as the 41st President of the United States, Roger Stone writes: “Jeb had snorted lines of cocaine at the vice president’s residence at the Naval Observatory on the night of Vice President George H.W. Bush’s election to the presidency.” Five years later, in 1994, Bush ran for Governor of Florida, but was beaten by Democrat Lawton Chiles. Bush ran for Florida Governor again in 1998 and won. He was re-elected in 2002 to become Florida’s first two-term Republican governor. According to Stone, during his time as Governor of Florida, Jeb Bush was using cocaine: “A prominent Tallahassee lobbyist told me he had also snorted coke with Jeb Bush, which the (then Florida) governor said he did largely out of boredom with the slow pace of the state capital.” In addition, the book supposedly contains allegations that at some point, Jeb was caught trying to smuggle cocaine into the Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport and was caught up in a DEA-videotaped sting. However, the synopsis I saw did not mention a date associated with this allegation. I’m still reporting from Washington. Good day.
