Treating clothing with Permethrin
If you hike in the woods where ticks, mosquitoes, chiggers and other nasty critters lurk, it’s a good idea to get your clothing treated with Permethrin by a company called Insect Shield.
They treat military clothing and also sell hiking and outdoor clothing.

Yes you can but it won’t last through 70 laundering’s and it will have an odor.
For $79.95 USD (2021), they will send you a large envelope with a prepaid FedEx label on it. You fill it up and FedEx picks it up at your home. They’ll treat it and send it back to you via FedEx. That’s a bargain. And there’s no odor!
If you decide to treat your clothing on your own, it’s kind of messy, your clothing has an odor and it might last a month if you’re lucky. Then there’s the cost of buying permethrin and you can’t carry the leftover with you. It’s too heavy.
With all the ticks on the Appalachian Trail, I’m trusting my health to Insect Shield.

this-himiway-e-bike-ride-almost-turned
I took a ride down my normal trail but then turned off into another trail. That trail came to a Y and I took the route indicated by an arrow for bikes. Oh no...this turned out to be a mountain bike trail next to a drop off that went into a creek. At one point I almost went headfirst into the creek.

This is the first ride on my Himiway Zebra Step Thru after raising the handlebar 3 inches by installing an Adjustable Extension Tube. You will see the beginning of our beautiful Fall Colors on the leaves here in Michigan. Winter is coming! Raising the handlebar 3 inches helped my hands and fingers. Before, after riding for 30 minutes, my fingers would begin to get numb because I'm over 6 feet tall. After add the adjustable extension tube, I was able to raise the handlebar 3 inches and that did resolve the numbness in my fingers after long rides.

Today I was on a walk in a nature center and two tom turkeys were directly in front of me and refused to move out of the trail. Finally I kept creeping up and they decided to move.
Did you know this?
When a Tom turkey fluffs up their feathers and open their tail feathers, it makes a plop sound after they are fully open. They must be locking into place. In the video, I turned up the volume so you could hear it in two places.

These are the Enlightened Equipment’s Torrid APEX Jacket and the Copperfield Wind Pants. Both are XL. I’m 6’1” 195 lbs with long legs. Both jacket and pants fit great. There’s room under the jacket for my base layers and fleece. Superb quality. Exterior of the jacket is 10d material. Jacket is 10.2 oz and wind pants are 1.7 oz.
