DrSurindher clears your doubts about "Fat (with Stem cells) Vs Implants" for Breast Augmentation.
There is a lot of confusion regarding Fat ( with or without stem cells) vs Silicone implants for Breast Augmentation.
Yes, both are options which are now well established. Implants have the advantage that they are permanent ( for practical reasons) and maintain the size and give a bit of firmness and "Perky" look to the breasts. But the disadvantage is a scar and of course some other issues like capsular contracture and infections.
Fat is a good alternative. But, it is not without its issues. We harvest fat from the abdomen and we decant it and inject it back into the breasts. The advantages are that it's your own tissue so integrates well and there are NO scars.
But there are some disadvantages as well. We cannot put in too much fat in one go, the fat will not survive and my lead to calcification and nodules. There might not be enough fat to harvest and once you get pregnant or breast feed, the fat gets replaced and you lose the fat. Also, it will give you fuller breasts but since it is not firm, it will not give you a very "perky" look.
Stem cells or Mesenchymal Stem cells are present in any fat that we harvest in the interstitium. This is taken and sent for enrichment which can be injected along with the fat about a week later. This is helpful in patients who do not have enough donor areas for fat.
The most important is to discuss your options with your plastic surgeon and find an option that suits your needs. One size (or procedure) doesn't fit all.
