1/16/2014 Secularist Supremacy and Molinism on Today's Dividing Line
Yeah, there's a combination! Actually, the first half hour we reviewed some amazing stories about how the secular left pretends to be so inclusive and freedom loving but is in fact utterly demanding of our fidelity and obedience. But then we moved into my review of recent William Lane Craig clips, first from a Sunday School class (where he promoted synergism vs. a Reformed member of the class) and then in his debate with Paul Helm on Unbelievable. We will continue with our review on a future program! ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCXhlk1nNjw
Started off with Pope Francis’ comments on homosexuality and the distinction of sin/crime, then looked at a progressivist on Twitter and his explanation of how he became “affirming.” Looked at a thread documenting comments Andy Stanley made to a group of pastors in 2019, and then finished up with a review of my brief discussion with James Lindsay on his argument with the Wolfes on the issue of Adam and the concept of gnosticism. 75 minutes today.

First hour we played material relevant to apologetic methodology as William Lane Craig continues his very interesting, if somewhat confusing, interaction with the debate Sye did on the radio. But we only got halfway through that, as I wanted to review some comments by Karlo Broussard on catholic.com attempting (badly) to parallel atheism with Protestantism (specifically, a belief in sola scriptura). We will continue the review of WLC on the next program.

Quickly mentioned some of the evidence of the rise of totalitarianism in the United States, then made note of some of the wild videos showing a huge response to our addressing Hebrew Israelism, and finished up with a rather passionate response to JD Hall and Christian News and the attack upon Apologia Church.

I promised to eventually get around to Pastor Mike Winger’s video on the “Achilles Heel of Calvinism,” as it had been sent to me at least a dozen times by different folks, and so today we got to it, even though we were up against the Kavanaugh hearings which probably shrank the audience a good bit (Rich says we still have over 400 watching on YouTube). In any case, spent right at 90 minutes playing portions and responding to brother Winger’s comments. Lots of important ground in the debate covered and clarified. Two main topics on the program today: first, we looked at a claim made by Zakir Hussain in a recent debate regarding, once again, the raising of Jairus’ daughter, as recorded by Matthew and Luke. Then we started looking at Devin Rose’s response to our review of some comments from his Catholic Answers Live interview.
I must confess, I was a terrible grandpa today on the progSummrlove_2015-Feb-24ram! I was unaware that my daughter had the DL going on the TV at her house, and my dear little granddaughter Clementine was trying to talk to Grandpa, just like we do on FaceTime. But Grandpa just kept talking, and was clearly using adult language and not paying attention to Clementine, even though she was saying, “Okay, Grandpa, stop! Listen to Clementine!” So, she gave up, grabbed her diaper bag, and headed out!

Reported on the past week up in Salt Lake City, the witnessing at the Conference, and the two debates and one dialogue as well. Lots of background information and side stories! Then at the end I looked at the result of the “hug heard round the world” in Dallas and the entire mantra of “black forgiveness,” looking at James Cone’s horrific words that seem to be part and parcel of the “woke church,” “…blacks must treasure their hostility, bringing it fully into consciousness as an irreducible quality of their identity” (_Black Theology and Black Power_, p. 144). Pastor John Samson (www.kingschurchaz.com & effectualgrace.com) returns to guest host today's Dividing Line broadcast and continues his teaching on expository preaching. How the Bible is handled in a service often reveals far more about a church's true beliefs regarding Scripture, rather than a statement of faith found on a website. Today's teaching is a summons to make God's word central in the life and ministry of the church.
In the video John refers to "homework." You can find that here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9LCwI5iErE

Did a live DL from London (Westminster) today via Zoom (worked really well!) discussing how we “draw the lines,” using three examples to provide us with some perspective for this challenging discussion. We looked at Matt Walsh, Roman Catholic, who was interviewed on the CrossPolitic program last week. Then we looked at Serene Jones, head of Union Theological Seminary, and comments she made in a recent NYT article. Then we looked at comments made directly to me and about me by Ron Underwood, a Denver area resident who, I think, would find John Calvin insufficiently Calvinistic. How do we know what is definitional of the faith? What about inconsistencies? Traditions? Are Arminians all lost and going to hell? Are Calvinists going to hell if they are not sufficiently hard-nosed about it? What about Rome? Lots of things to think about today from London! Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/

Covered a wide variety of things today from the 9-11 remembrances to the use of accreditation to crush Christian education in the West to various discussions of the social justice issue from a number of specifics (especially from articles by Douglas Wilson and Samuel Sey). Finished up looking at Jemar Tisby’s article wherein he exhorts people to “avoid” people like me. Visit the store at https://doctrineandlife.co/
