GI Sci-Fi VFX Short Film: Amina Animated Short Film by Jesimiel Bello.
Amina is a 4 minutes Sci-fi short film that mirrors the battles between belief systems by using a lot of symbolism. It ultimately shows that no matter how much we try we can't run away from our human nature.

We’re really excited to bring you our third instalment of ‘Sessions’ for Riot Games Music. This 90-minute animation, set to a commissioned album from the Riot Games Music team, follows League of Legends’ character and Star Guardian member Taliyah. She takes a break from her tedious schoolwork and world-saving duties to visit her local mall turned retro pastel playground when she meets the mischievous Fiddlesticks. Reality and fantasy blur together in a sugar rush of tumbling candy, bubbling Boba, twisting stationery, retro arcade machines and sparkling skyscapes.
Put on your best retro outfit and join the duo’s incredible dance routines as you follow them through their bubblegum adventure. Thanks once again to the Riot Games Music team who let us run with it. We’re really proud of how it all turned out.
The collaborative bunch at Girl & Bear (VCCP’s production arm) approached us to develop, design and direct ‘a few’ commercials for Sage, the accounting, financial, HR and payroll tech company for small and mid-sized businesses.
A few, as it turned out, was 14 x 30” AND they wanted them on telly boxes around the world within 2 ½ months. This was a project that needed to be visually developed from scratch. After a “Noooo problem!” and a collective dry swallow from our team, we regained composure, a week later, and got down to the nitty.
The ads are all driven by real voices of business, and so the treatment of the films required a personal touch to visually echo these quotes by real people. We chose a tactile illustrative style with bright colours, featuring ‘big friendly giants’ who would integrate playfully on black and white live action backdrops. The voices would lead the development of the stories.
Sage enables businesses to flow because owners are spending more time doing what they do best, while Sage deals with their accountancy. And flow is represented by the green ‘Flow line’ - it's considered the enabler. It can be playful and helpful - we imagined it to be like a dolphin swimming alongside you. A nice friendly personality to help you on your way.
This project has been a thoroughly rewarding experience for us at Seed - being part of the creative team that helped to develop this campaign from early days, and working with some phenomenal talent along the way. Big thanks to Mark Orbine, Andy Leahy, Tony Hector, Maxine Denton and Joseph Fathers at VCCP for giving us the opportunity and creating a warm and inviting creative atmosphere.

Recently we've been spending a lot of our time exploring cool non-photo-real styles in 3D. This short film, Directed by Antoine Perez, was created in Blender. It's entirely generative, with no hand painting and features a brush painting effect using Geometry Nodes. We're really excited to keep on exploring the possibilities of these tools!
This is the first project to be released through The Line's Development Department. This new branch of the studio is focused on R&D, original content, games and short films. All developed in-house at The Line.

"I was born and raised on a tea farm in Sri Lanka.
My father once told me: 'From the soil of this small island, I want to produce the world's most sought after, high-quality tea.'
The spirit of my father's legacy is what I want to carry on. My tea leaves this year will become GOGO-NO-KOCHA.
Since 2013, GOGO-NO-KOCHA has been supporting Sri Lankan tea farms through the help of the Rainforest Alliance."
In this spot for Japanese brand GOGO-NO-KOCHA, Hornet Director Yves Geleyn pulls out a few of his most iconic stops: vivid animation, fairytale sensibilities, and a simple yet sweet story about a young girl striving to carry on her family's legacy.

Louis, 8-and-a-half years old, is autistic. He arrives at his new school and is about to introduce himself.
Les Chaussures de Louis

"Empathy can feel in short supply in today’s world, but the ability to place yourself in someone else’s shoes is an important skill when it comes to understanding others. If it isn’t something you possess in your toolkit, you might need a little help and film (and storytelling in general) is a great aid in eliciting such reactions. Les Chaussures de Louis (Louis’ Shoes) is a short looking to do just that, as it tells its story through the eyes of a young autistic boy in the hope of raising awareness and resonating with viewers.
Created at Ecole MoPA, by Jean-Géraud Blanc, Théo Jamin, Ka Yu Leung and Marion Philippe, the five-minute animation focuses on eight-and-a-half-year-old Louis on his first day at a new school. Asked to introduce himself to his new classmates, this is an important moment for the titular protagonist of Louis’ Shoes, as he wants them to understand his unique perspective of the world. Confused by the ritual of waving to say hello and with an aversion to eye contact, will his fellow pupils accept Louis for who he is? Or will they shun him and his blue, size 33 shoes?
Initially inspired by autistic philosophers, the quartet behind Louis’ Shoes recognised that for their film to be successful and genuine, pre-production was going to play an essential role and so they set out on what they describe as “a journey of interviews and research”. Basing their character and his experiences around the testimonials of people with autism, the team were able to create a sense of authenticity throughout their short and this, in turn, helps with the feeling of warmth and understanding that radiates from their story.
“Throughout the film, we thrive to create Louis’ particular way of seeing the world, which is at the same time a way of seeing ourselves, by walking, together, in his shoes”, the four co-directors explain. “The theme is specific but the struggle is universal. When the audience sees how Louis overcomes his difficulties with courage and sincerity, hopefully, it can resonate with people … even those without autism, to have the courage to accept and understand”.
Recognising CG animation as “the best tool” to do justice to the inspiring stories of their interviewees, Louis’ Shoes pairs its moving storyline with an affable aesthetic that welcomes its audience into Louis’ world. With the majority of the supporting characters framed so we never see their faces (until the very last scene), the team do a good job of inserting viewers in the gaze-avoiding point-of-view of their young protagonist. For some, this approach could have been limiting, but if anything it has forced this young team of animators to really push out their creativity and think of new ways of framing scenes. With so many shots from floor level or from Louis’ PoV, things could have got tiresome very quickly, but at just over five minutes in length, it never feels gimmicky or overstays its welcome.
Selected at festivals worldwide, Louis’ Shoes picked up the Gold medal in International Animation at the 2021 Student Academy Awards. Released online for a short period, as it’s hoping to be shortlisted for the Best Animated Short Film award at the 2022 Oscars, you should watch this charming little short while you can." - S/W Curator Rob Munday
