We discuss the 1933 film adaptation of S.S. Van Dine's Kennel Murder Case. Said by some to be one of the best detective fiction adaptations for the silver screen of all time, we talk about all the charms that help this film hold ground over 85 years after it was released. We also speak with Dr. Mike Grost, a murder mystery enthusiast who maintains one of the best online databases of detective fiction on his personal website.

As we continue the numerically-challenged portion of our playthrough, we get introduced to a nifty new rule in the game. I'm sure this one will play a small role as the story continues on the same path with no deviations.
If you're confused, Ben is the one who knows what's going on, Felix is the one who is lost.
This is part of an ongoing playthrough of Umineko no Naku Koro ni. Be sure to check the playlist for the rest! The long sections are full, mostly unedited footage of our gameplay.

Satoko snaps, and then Keiichi has an epiphany. Or the other way around. It's hard to tell.

We discuss chapters 13-28 of Sophie Hannah's latest Hercule Poirot continuation novel, 'Silent Night'. Edward Catchpool and Hercule Poirot find themselves the victim of a terrible poisoning, and will it lead them to the killer of Stanley Niven? Probably not, because Edward's mother confesses immediately, simply to tell the duo how good of an idea it was getting Poirot into hospital so he'd be closer to the case. I'm sure other things happen in this stretch of chapters, but I'm still very shaken by this particular sequence. With laughter, mostly. That's right - Poirot goes to visit the nurses from the hospital, meets Mr. Hurt-His-Head from Arthur's notes, and Arthur is killed in a dramatic break-in.
We're also joined by Lindy Cameron, National Co-Convenor of Sisters in Crime Australia, and founder of Clan Destine Press, to talk about the 30th anniversary of the Scarlet Stiletto Awards.
We want to hear from you for Review Season! Tell us your favourite trends in the crime fiction you read this year, and your favourite stories, by getting in touch on the show page.

We discuss chapters 1-8 of Margery Allingham's final Albert Campion novel, 'Cargo of Eagles', completed posthumously by her husband Philip Youngman Carter. An aged Campion finds himself the spymaster as the American spy Morty makes his way to the small Essex town of Saltey. As the investigation arrives in the town, their primary contact, lawyer Hector Askew is found dead, a radio playing in his hands, a bullet lodged in his head. Now long past the days of the action hero, can Campion wrangle his team through the grizzly gang-laden underbelly of Saltey? Flex is joined by producer Lachlan Acourt to find out.
We also speak with Mike Ripley, author of ten Mr. Campion continuation novels, the latest of which 'Mr. Campion's Mosaic', launches October 4th. What are the key elements of Albert Campion that shape Mike's vision of the character? We ask Mike what sets the spytective apart.

We discuss chapters 6-9 of The Sign of The Four by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. As Sherlock Holmes drives himself closer to the villain of this tale, and the recovery of a stolen treasure, he brings all the charm he can muster by dressing up like an old fisherman and being captured by his own friend Watson, as well as employing a small army of street urchins in pursuit of the murderer! Sherlock is convinced the elusive peg-legged Jonathan Small is the murderer, is there even a mystery here? Or is there room for doubt? Meanwhile Watson struggles with his love for Mary Morstan, knowing that, should she recover her treasure, she will be lost to him at last. Will love conquer all? Tune in to hear Flex and Herds discuss the potential of a murder mystery with no mystery to truly solve, as the swashbuckling adventure continues.
