50 mile cross country out and along the North Sea and some rivers in the South East of England. With a bonus competition:
Listen to the question somewhere during the video. If you think you know (or can find out!) the answer, put it in the comments. At the end of June, I'll collect everyone who has the right answer, put them in a hat and pull out a winner. Winner gets a nearly unique 'The Flying Scotsman' paramotor cap. As not seen on TV and in the shops.
Competition open to UK people only - since I need to post the cap to you. If you win and then tell me an address outside the UK, I'll just draw from the hat again until I get a UK person, so please - no folk outside of UK for this comp.
Don't worry - if this competition is a success I'll do more, and will extend them to rest of the world, but for the first one, I just want to keep it simple. Thanks for understanding :-)

After a too windy first day, the morning was flyable - low wind, but lots of cloud - so no high flying, but plenty opportunities to fly low around the hills. Could have done without the flyby by 3 F15s (thought they were tornados at first, but commenter pointed out they are F15s) though which did have me kacking my pants a bit...

Got 2 new 360 degree cameras.
The 360 video is here:
https://youtu.be/kQJNQ2DWYns
This is the 'freecapture' rendered regular video (though also shot with 360 cameras).
I've been shooting 360 for 2 1/2 years now - with an original insta360 nano and a samsung gear 360.
But the new generation are a bit advancement.
I've bought an Insta360 One X, and an Insta 360 Evo 3d.
They both can shoot in 5.7k/30 and both can shoot in 360.
The evo can also shoot in VR180 3d.
So, here I'm presenting 2 test videos - basically experiments to see what works and doesn't work with paramotor.
One video is edited in Overcapture or 'FreeCapture' as Insta360 calls it. This basically allows you to create a regular video for display on a regular tv, etc.
The other video uses the 'raw' 360 video to provide a true 5.7k 360 video.
To view 360 one, best use VR goggles, but failing that use a mobile phone or tablet and the youtube app - full screen should allow you to move the device around to see all around.
Failing all that, you can view on youtube on any browser, and use the mouse to move around and see what you wanna see.
Do ensure that quality is set to 2880p if your machine is quick enough for a crisp view.
Thoughts:
- not having to use a gimbal is nice, but even at 5.7k, once you edit into the letterbox 160x110 or so of regular gopro footage, you only have 1080p or so to play with.
So, the non 360 edited version is about on par with 1080p basically... whereas if I'd used my gimbal, I'd be shooting in 4k with the gopro all being used.
What it is good for though is shooting the pole B roll footage - it gives you far more creative options to create interesting views with it shot on a 360 camera - I had been using the samsung gear VR for this, but the One X is massively better - full stablisation, a much higher resolution and a much quicker editing process.
So I think that will be the main use of the ONE X - B roll pole footage.
For helmet, I'll keep using the gopro4 and gimbal.
Finally, I did also do a flight with the evo shooting in VR180 3d mode, helmet mounted. This worked really well technically, but for actual viewing it's not really anything special since there's nothing really in the foreground bar my feet - so you really don't get any 3d effect. So I don't think 3d helmet footage is useful and I won't be publishing that video for now.

Travelling over from Pitlochry took me by Wolftrax - a great free downhill mountain bike trail centre. I have no mountain biking skills, but I gave it a go. I went down it at a snail pace, and still managed to get a puncture after 5 minutes - luckily I always carry spare tube, tools, etc. Great place for folk that know what they are doing - I'll stick to flying I think. When I got to Fort William it looked flyable(ish) - take off was a b4stard as field was thick long grass. In the end I missed the weather window, and gave up - landing just before the rain started.
