A macro hotkey is any hotkey you can press to perform multiple tasks. There's actually a quite easy way to create simple macros in Blender. The TLDW is to set one hotkey to activate with "Press" and set another hotkey to activate with "Release". I'll show you an example of how to do this int today's video featuring a macro (single button press) for adding a subsurf modifier to an object and applying smooth shading. You could use this technique to combine any to Blender actions though.
