On today's Tech, No Babel: Troubleshooting Techniques: Using a Fox and Hound Tool
One of the great things about troubleshooting is that you don't always have to rely on tests you devise to figure out what's wrong. Sometimes, there's a tool that will help you.
That's what today's show is all about. A fox and hound (also known as a tone generator and probe) is a tool that helps you find cables. You may know where each end is, but not know which end on one side goes with what cable.

This one is pretty straightforward. I just forgot where it was in the menu; I usually just hit cmd+t and rotate by hand. This is actually the right way to do it. This is the unboxing of the proof of "The Serving Church" by Paul Alan Clifford
Book description:
You were made for something more. Deep inside you know it's true. Getting up, going to work, coming home, and going to bed isn't doing it for you. You long for a life that matters.
What will people say about you when you're gone? Will they even notice that another cog in the corporate machine is missing? Will people instead talk about the difference you made in their lives? Will anyone say, "My life is better for having known her" or "I'd be so much worse off if he hadn't given of himself?"

On today’s ProPresenter show, how to limit what an app can do in iOS. (Works with the ProRemote app)
Hi, and welcome again to the ProPresenter show. This is normally the show where I help you learn about propresenter, but today, I’m going to show you an iOS trick that can be used with ProPresenter and the ProRemote app, but doesn’t have to be. My name is Paul Alan Clifford and before we get started, if you’d like to learn more about ProPresenter and related stuff, go ahead and click the subscribe button and little bell icon so you can be the first to learn the new tips and tricks I share.
Over in the ProPresenter Users Group (tdm.fyi/ppug), Jamey Halfast Church asked “Anyone have a trick to stop touch activation on ipad2 with some kind of tape? Scotch, electrical, and gaff tape don't work…”Here’s why he wanted to do this. His pastor wanted to use the iPad for telestrator, but was sometimes accidentally advancing the slides or doing something else he didn’t want to do.
So, here’s the solution that Jacob Newlin came up with.

If you want to be creative, there are four words to keep in mind. To make it simple, I've picked words that all start with "i", so they should be easier to remember.
Get INSPIRED
Look for something that you like that you could use in the following phases. It doesn't matter if you don't know why you like it or if you don't have the skills to reproduce it. Start with what inspires you. Is it the work of Jony Ive or the films of Steven Speilberg or the writings of J.K. Rowling. It doesn't matter if you don't agree with the content. I'm talking about the art of the piece. Collect examples.
This is why would-be authors are told to read a lot or why film makers are told to watch a lot of films. You need to see what you like first before you'll ever be ready to make great art of your own.

50 Pro7 tips on my 50th Birthday:
1. Always give yourself extra time
2. Alpha channels are the best way to key
3. Backups are your friend
4. Bible in Pro7 act like physical Bibles; they can only be one place at a time, unless you buy multiple copies.
5. Check last week's and next week's playlists after you update
6. Delay updates until you have time to fix any potential problems; Never update right before church.
7. Export playlists & Presentations to move them to other machines (and know the difference between the two).
8. Learn what each of the editors do and what they're best for.
9. Fade isn't what you want; dissolve is (most of the time).
10. Go to next timers work differently with foreground and background videos.
11. Help is always close at my Official ProPresenter Users' Community on Facebook OR support@renewedvision.com. Reach out to support earlier, rather than later.
12. Hotkeys are your friends, especially when the Holy Spirit moves or the lead singer forgets his or her place (not that I'm judging).
13. Know the details of ProPresenter+; I think it's worth the money.
14. Keyboard shortcuts will save you a ton of time.
15. Lists can do more that bullets and reveals; sometimes real fun stuff.
16. Libraries are great organizational tools.
17. Modules are a thing of the past; all functions are now included in Pro7.
18. Learn to when to use media playlists for more than just organization.
19. Never put your ProPresenter folder in a cloud drive
20. Change slides early for music; the next to last syllable is my guideline.
21. Operators need to know the basics of ProPresenter troubleshooting.
22. Props are too powerful to use willy-nilly. Often you can use messages instead of props.
23. Use every other layer FIRST before using a prop, if you can.
24. Avoid PowerPoint whenever you can.
25. Getting sermon notes as a text file with a folder of media is faster and easier for everyone and yields a better presentation than most alternatives.
26. Request notes early.
27. Quit ProPresenter when you're done with it each day that you use it.
28. Routing audio correctly inside ProPresenter will prevent feedback and other issues.
29. Don't forget to signup to get my Pro7 Quickstart course at TDM.fyi/pro7quick.
30. Never use a hack when there's a feature that does EXACTLY the same thing.
31. The "Stage Only" action is the correct way to show stuff (like lyrics) on the stage screen and not the audience screens.
32. Try to get by with a cut; you probably can.
33. Themes will make your life easier & your presentations more consistent-looking.
34. You can use an unregistered version of Pro7 to create playlists and presentations.
35. Use a video switcher for IMAG or more than three or so live video sources.
36. When your slides look odd, like they only show text and it's formatted differently and larger, that's PROBABLY easy view mode.
37. Automate and transfer playlists with Planning Center.
38. If you want to do chord charts, Multitracks is DEFINITELY worth it.
39. Pay attention to reliable sources.
40. Search and drag presentations into the playlists; trust me, it's easier.
41. Automate when possible with timecode, midi, and calendars
42. If you think you'll reuse and action, put it into a macro instead.
43. Use the CCLI editor to display copyright information.
44. Stage screens can do more than just show lyrics AND can be used for people other than just those leading from the front.
45. If you use the reflow editor, it will change your life! No seriously!
46. Use looks presets, but only if you have multiple audience screens.
47. If you do the same song, different ways, use arrangements.
48. Masks are awesome if you have environmental projection, odd-shaped screens, OR motorized screens that you sometimes don't lower all the way.
49. Use the announcement layer for teaching TVs and other things, not just announcements.
50. It's abbreviated "Pro7" not ProP, PP, ProPre, or ProPres...or some other random thing.

On today's Tech, No Babel: Troubleshooting Techniques: Reterminating Cables
All things being equal, cables tend to have problems before hardware. Beyond that, the ends tend to have problems before the middle of a cable. So, reterminating cables will fix problems more than almost any other solution.
