Monster Audio Goes Blockchain - Business on the Blockchain
Business on the Blockchain is a new series aimed at keeping you up to date on all of the big business moves towards blockchain technology. Monster has been around since 1979 and in that time they have positioned themselves as a leader in the audio space.
Monster announced they are filing for a $300 million ICO. An ICO for headphones? Well not exactly. Monster is looking towards blockchain technology to help them pivot, or rather create a different retail strategy.
Monster is going to use the funds to create a digital e-commerce platform housed on the Ethereum blockchain. They are dubbing it the “Monster Money Network.”
With this they will also launch their own Monster cryptocurrency. However, fiat will also be accepted, creating accessibility for both types of users. It’s a good strategy. Launch a marketplace that is as usable as possible. And this might be a bridge that takes fiat buyers towards testing out cryptocurrency.

In this episode of "WTF is", we cover ICOs. What are ICOs and what are they used for?
ICO Stands for Initial Coin Offering and is a play on the popular term "IPO"' standing for Initial Public Offering. Unlike IPOs, which are for companies to list their stock on a public exchange, Initial Coin Offerings are for Blockchain projects to raise money without depending on private finances such as Venture Capital (VCs).
ICOs can be used to crowdfund, but there's also a huge profit motive driven by speculation that brings in the funding for ICOs. Because of the chance to make quick money investors are jumping at the opportunity to get a piece of these ICOs. We're even seeing some ICOs bring in hundreds of millions of dollars, often selling out in seconds.

What does Iced Tea have to do with blockchains? Nothing until last December. If you can think back to then, the cryptocurrency markets were booming with one bitcoin going for about $20k.
Awareness about cryptocurrency and blockchains were coming to the mainstream. Major news outlets started to look into this new blockchain and cryptocurrency thing, and the result was more and more people were forced to pay attention. Businesses also took notice, as the rapidly growing market seemingly offered new opportunities, and they didn't miss out. Most set out to explore cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies, but some projects decided to dive in head first.
Long Island Iced Tea was one of these projects. In December they announced that they were diversifying and rebranding to Long Blockchain Corp. They decided to abandon their focus on delicious refreshing iced tea and focus on the less delicious, but very intriguing blockchain technology. Check out the video to see how they have fared.

CharityStars, the company behind AidCoin, is using blockchain technology to revolutionize how charitable giving occurs. By implementing AIDPay, a tool that takes donations in fiat and automatically exchanges them for cryptocurrency, which is then distributed to the charities.
CharityStars has used the unique method of forging relationships with celebrities and those that have access to memorabilia. They take these donations or experiences and auction them off to the highest bidder. A lunch with former Italian Prime Minister, Silvio Burlesconi, sold for $80,000!
