Normally Friday would be Classic Mode for my F-Zero 99 series, but a new update just dropped this week with new content for normal F-Zero 99 races, so I'm switching it up this week. As part of this week's update, a new track was added to normal F-Zero 99 mode. The method to accessing this track is a little unorthodox, though. At random points the F-Zero 99 option on the main menu will glitch out. Go into that mode when the option glitches, and one of the options will be marked "???" with no minimap view. There are four of these secret mystery tracks in the game's files but only one of them is available right now. This first mystery track is like a hybrid of Death Wind and White Land, with the basic oval shape of Death Wind 1 with the wind gimmick, combined with White Land 1's serial jumps on the two main stretches, as well as a White Land 2-style hairpin before the recharge strip and a White Land 2-style jump immediately after. The update also includes the addition of private lobbies to play any mode at any time. You can also start a private lobby by yourself to practice for a Grand Prix, bumpers and all. It also raises the maximum level from 99 to 399 with stars appearing next to your level number every 100. The maximum skill rank has also been raised from S20 to S50, and when you reach S21, your rank turns gold, and at this point, the gains are greatly reduced and the losses are greatly increased. This week on Sunday Longplay, the Game Boy Mega Man series comes to a close with the fifth installment released in 1994, also known in Japan as Rockman World 5! Unlike the previous entries in the Mega Man Game Boy series, this one uses a completely original set of robot masters known as Stardroids based on the planets of our solar system. The shop from Mega Man IV is back, and there are four collectible crystals in the second group of Stardroid stages to get a special item that halves your weapon energy use. Mega Man also gets a brand-new main weapon in this game instead of the Mega Buster. It's called the Mega Arm, and when charged it shoots off and punches enemies. You can also use P Chips to upgrade it to grab distant items and punch enemies repeatedly. This game is also unique in that it's the first Mega Man Classic game where Dr. Wily is not the final boss. After fighting through a marathon level with rematches against the four Mega Man Killers and the 8 Stardroids, and fighting four parts of the Wily Machine, Wily unleashes the ancient weapon Sunstar as the final boss!
