Construction Project - ASMR style - no Talking - Tuin Gazebo
We made this in 5-days working about 5-hours per day in a fairly relaxed manner. The Gazebo is from a company called "Tuin", it's a modern Larch Gazebo at just under £2,000. Comes as a kit. You need some basic skills and tools; an impact driver for screwing, a drill with quite long 6mm and 3mm drill for making pilot holes and a hammer etc. I cut nearly 15cms off the legs (9 inches or so) because it would have been too tall for our installation. Fun to build and it just sets off the bottom of the garden nicely. I don't like direct sunshine and we also don't like sitting in the rain! We map out the hurdles and gear requirements including masts and antennas in search of reaching our goal of achieving a 20 mile hop at nearly 500 Mbps between James's house and the Lickey Hills. Objective is to get one of the Carrier Class Rocket Dishes up to 10m in height to clear the Fresnel Zone, about 1 mile away from the house. Otherwise, we are line-of-sight to the Lickey Hills at 20 miles so we should be good-to-go.
Massive Thank you to Steve Nelson for donating this incredible kit to the channel to allow us to conduct these tests. https://www.calibre-secured.net/about

Let's talk about why you hardly ever need an ATU and the effect on shape has on HF Antennas. I did this presentation for The Sutton and Cheam Radio Society. Callum. M0MCX.

Fascinating story of grit and determination. A story of a bushman who knew nothing about modern life but is now an engineer - he should have his ticket by January 2023. Right.. The current goal is $5,000 New Zealand dollars. See if you can help out please. Link as follows: https://gogetfunding.com/ham-radio-for-papua-new-guinea/

Sometimes I quite like non-standard phonetics, for instance "Suga-Papa" (Poland) and "George Four XYZ" for an older UK callsign, it's important we recognise when and when NOT to deviate from the standards. See what you think anyway. I know this isn't set in stone, but this video is for just some guidance that newbies might find helpful. If you follow the "rules" I find that it also helps me when I'm "in the chair" running a pile-up. Callum.

Note: Part 2 of this video will not be filmed until after winter 2018 is complete. We'll report back on durability and any failures that may have happened at that time.

Thanks to James for hosting this long-term test of the DX Commander ABV. Instead of using hose-clamps, we glued the sections together with an epoxy resin (cheap stuff like Araldite, unlike fibreglass goop). Fine tuning brought the SWR in as per film.
Full disclosure: A long length of coax will have an effect of making your SWR curves look a bit better than they are at the feedpoint. The analysis shown in the film was at the end of a 100m run of RG213 we borrowed from our "low-band" stock.
If you have an onboard ATU, then you will seriously not have an issue. James and I run amplifiers and do not run COAX through ATUs. Actually, I do run an AT-4K but I only use it to measure SWR and Power etc unless I'm running balanced feeder to a doublet.
Cut dimensions as follows and you will have a usable antenna.
40m 9.67m + foldback of 1.14 + loop of 10cms total wire at 7m height
30m 6.88m + foldback of 6cms
20m 4.89m + foldback of 6 cms
17m 3.83m + foldback of 6 cms
15m (tunes with 40m band as a 5/8th)
12m 2.78m + foldback of 6 cms
10m 2.45m + foldback of 5 cms

I love economical wire antennas and this presentation is my 20 years of experimentation of wire antenna science in a nutshell. This was recorded LIVE for the folks at Bury AMS and Warrington ARC. Sit back and enjoy! Callum. DX Commander. M0MCX.
