The band's original line-up was ***[Shaun Ryder](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shaun_Ryder)*** (vocals), his brother ***[Paul Ryder](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_Ryder)*** (bass), ***Mark Day*** (guitar), ***Paul Davis*** (keyboard), and ***Gary Whelan*** (drums). ***[Mark "Bez" Berry](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bez_(dancer))*** later joined the band onstage as a dancer/percussionist. ***[Rowetta](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rowetta)*** joined the band as a vocalist in 1990.
The group's work bridged the Manchester independent rock music of the 1980s and the emerging UK rave scene, drawing influence from funk, house, and psychedelia to pioneer the Madchester sound.

**”Uncle Dysfunktional”** would have had some longer staying power, but as it stands it's a not-bad-at-all comeback that's at least better than **“Stupid, Stupid, Stupid”** and it offers one stone-cold Ryder classic in the gleefully vulgar "Cuntrydisco," a hazy blend of Hawaiian steel, ***Bob George*** samples, silly voices, and nonsense that's as good as anything he's ever done - even if it does suggest that he could have done an album as good as this if he only bothered. ***(Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music)***

critics consider the band one of the most important to emerge from the British independent music scene of the 1980s.
Based on the songwriting partnership of Morrissey and Marr, the Smiths' focus on a guitar, bass, and drum sound, and fusion of 1960s rock and post-punk, were a rejection of the synthesiser-based dance-pop of the time. The friction between Morrissey and Marr resulted in a flurry of singles and albums over the course of three years that provided the blueprint for British guitar rock in the following decade.
***"Louder Than Bombs"*** is a band's compilation album, released as a double album in March 1987 by their American record company, ***[Sire Records](https://cutt.ly/uvmRt8r)***.
The album is an overlong and unfocused collection that nevertheless boasts a wealth of brilliant material, released as the American counterpart to their recent British compilation ***"The World Won't Listen"***. Release consisted of all singles and nearly all B-sides that had not at that point been available in the United States, either on single or album, with a few other tracks added.

***"Cocteau Twins"*** was a Scottish band active from 1979 to 1997. They were formed in Grangemouth by ***[Robin Guthrie](https://cutt.ly/tvKpRaT)*** (guitars, drum machine) and ***[Will Heggie](https://cutt.ly/nvKpOu1)*** (bass), adding ***[Elizabeth Fraser](https://cutt.ly/AvKpDfq)*** (vocals) in 1981 and replacing Heggie with multi-instrumentalist ***[Simon Raymonde](https://cutt.ly/CvKpJR8)*** in 1983.
The group earned critical praise for their ethereal, effects-laden sound and the vocals of Fraser, whose lyrics often abandon recognisable language, than on the subjective sounds and textures of verbalized emotions. They pioneered the 1980s alternative rock subgenre of dream pop.
***”Victorialand”*** is the fourth studio album by ***”Cocteau Twins”***, released by **[4AD](https://cutt.ly/KvKaGFi)**. in 1986.
***Elizabeth Fraser*** and guitarist/producer ***Robin Guthrie*** produced a record almost completely devoid of percussion, drenching acoustic guitars in reverberant space to create a wide, expansive sound that bordered on ambient. Rhythms are subtler, with bass and drum machine often totally eschewed in favor of Guthrie's delicate guitar filigrees and lush, produced textures. Fraser is, as always, in a wonderfully fine voice; her words are quite indecipherable, but the feelings are no less strong for it.
Whatever the reason, their is a warmth to this album that was not present on their three previous releases. The iciness that used to cover their songs like the morning frost is gone. Winter has thawed and the pearly dewdrops of a new spring shimmer & bask in the rays of the early rising Summer sun.
The fullest fruition & distillation of the magic of their inimitable sound.

***"Stereolab"*** are an English-French avant-pop band formed in London in 1990.
Led by the songwriting team of ***[Tim Gane](https://cutt.ly/BmFnRwl)*** (guitar and keyboards) and ***[Lætitia Sadie](https://cutt.ly/dmFnYuG)r***(vocals, keyboards and guitar), the group's music combines influences from *krautrock*, *lounge* and *1960s pop music*, often incorporating a repetitive motorik beat with heavy use of vintage electronic keyboards and female vocals sung in English and French.
Their lyrics have political and philosophical themes influenced by the ***[Surrealist](https://cutt.ly/imFnOlx)*** and ***[Situationist](https://cutt.ly/ymFnAt5)*** movements.
Although ***"Stereolab"*** found success in the underground music scene and were influential enough to spark a renewed interest in older analogue instruments, they have never had a significant commercial impact. Meaby the key is lost in the interview where ***Gane*** and ***Sadier*** have discussed their musical philosophy - *"to be unique for us was more important than to be good"*.
After tragic loss of former band member ***[Mary Hansen](https://cutt.ly/bmBRfKp)***, who died in a 2002 ic cycling accident, ***”Stereolab”*** decided to continue recording at the new studio they were building in the **Médoc** region of **France** but had difficulties completing its construction. It's something of a miracle, then, that ***”Margerine Eclipse”*** not only exists but is some of the most joyful music of ***”Stereolab”*** latter-day career.
The fizzy ***"Margerine Rock"*** sounds like it could've appeared on a volume of ***"[Switched On](https://cutt.ly/3m9ifx0)"***. Here and on ***"[Bop Scotch's](https://cutt.ly/nm3DCjd)"*** synthy surf-rock, they return to the effortless fun that informed their music prior to ***"[Dots and Loops](https://cutt.ly/Mm9iHCw)"***. ***"[Hillbilly Motobike](https://cutt.ly/Gm3DIP7)"*** is another breezy standout, although it's one of many moments on ***Margerine Eclipse*** where Hansen's absence is palpable...
Moments like this make the ***"ME"*** strong, surprisingly reinvigorated album from a band dedicated to pushing themselves, no matter what the circumstances.
