Sorry this video is so long ... I'm sure I probably should have split it into two videos but basically they are similar content. What I am doing in this video is checking on my two latest swarm captures and robbing resources from stronger hives to make sure these new hives have everything they need to be successful.
I have mostly switched over to using langstroth hives in my apiary but I have several warre hives also. I mostly use the warre hives as swarm traps these days, except I caught so many swarms in such a short period of time ... I have literally ran out of beehives so had to use the warre hives.
So i borrow a frame of honey from a langstroth hive to give to a new langstroth hive (swarm #3) that doesn't have any drawn comb and has a fresh swarm captured in it. Then I put a warre bar back into a warre hive that has swarm #2 in it and I used that frame to bait the 3rd swarm I caught.
This spring has been absolutely crazy in the apiary and I am so glad I found so many swarms this year, especially since the cost of bees has sky rocketed AND reputable suppliers have not been very ummmm how can I say this and still be nice ..... reputable suppliers have not been very reputable or dependable or reliable :)

I was looking for a small multi-purpose sewing kit and got this idea from a video I watched on Ranger Survival and Field Craft channel I will link to below. My kit is not exactly like the kit he did the video on, but the basic idea came from his video so I like to give credit where it is due. I'm not big on regurgitating what other people say when it comes to wilderness survival, but I know enough about it and teach the principals often enough to know this is a solid kit that could be very useful during time of need
The sewing kit is available on amazon along with almost all of the contents I added to it. I am providing my affiliate links to those items as a matter of convenience if you would like to build one of these kits too. Using my affiliate links does not change the price of the items but I do get a very small kickback if you purchase any of the items from these links and that kickback helps me to buy items for youtube channel give aways.

Let me tell you something about raising chickens, there is nothing funnier than:
a) watching chickens gorge themselves and become so full and tired they fall asleep and fall off their roost, or fall asleep face first into the ground, or fall asleep and fall over
b) chasing flies

I bought a white Marseilles fig this year and it produced 26 figs its first year. 3 of them were ready so i shared them with my sister who has never had a fresh fig. Im still on the fence if i like this variety more than my chicago hardy, which i now have multiple trees. Personally i feel figs are one of the first fruit trees you should plant if you are new to homesteading.

This has been a strange weather year. The forest floor still looks like winter in northern kentucky. In previous years I usually start finding morel mushrooms the first or second week of April. By now, all my fruit trees are normally bloomed, this year hardly any are. I was honestly surprised to find any hunting today, assuming our 3 days of nearly 80 degree weather made the ground too warm but we had a rain yesterday and cooler tempts today and over the next few days could make a change for morel mushrooms and maybe this year wont be a washout after all.
Anyways, enjoy this mushroom hunting tips & tricks and passing some knowledge along how I hunt them to educate those new to hunting morels.
