Artists from Framestore’s Design Studio worked with MTV to create a 20” introduction to the media giant’s own energy drink, MTV UP!, as part of the product’s UK launch. Watch it here on Vimeo.
MTV UP!
Already prompting a buzz in countries around Europe, the spot will be seen on air and across social media, under the campaign slogan #RaiseYourself. Turning around the 20” piece in just a week, Design Studio’s Stephen Goalby, Dan Herlihy and Steven Kelly worked in sync to deliver a fittingly dynamic motion graphic.
Having received storyboards from MTV, the Design Studio team mapped out the shots needed to achieve the transition from booming waves of particles, moving in cymatic patterns, to a wider view of the drink can. Using Cinema 4D and the X-Particles plugin gave the artists the dynamic control and depth of field needed to manage the movement of thousands of particles, as well as creating a realistic finish on the can itself. With no further clean-up needed, the piece was neatly turned around and delivered in its entirety through our Design Studio.
The collaborative bunch at Girl & Bear (VCCP’s production arm) approached us to develop, design and direct ‘a few’ commercials for Sage, the accounting, financial, HR and payroll tech company for small and mid-sized businesses.
A few, as it turned out, was 14 x 30” AND they wanted them on telly boxes around the world within 2 ½ months. This was a project that needed to be visually developed from scratch. After a “Noooo problem!” and a collective dry swallow from our team, we regained composure, a week later, and got down to the nitty.
The ads are all driven by real voices of business, and so the treatment of the films required a personal touch to visually echo these quotes by real people. We chose a tactile illustrative style with bright colours, featuring ‘big friendly giants’ who would integrate playfully on black and white live action backdrops. The voices would lead the development of the stories.
Sage enables businesses to flow because owners are spending more time doing what they do best, while Sage deals with their accountancy. And flow is represented by the green ‘Flow line’ - it's considered the enabler. It can be playful and helpful - we imagined it to be like a dolphin swimming alongside you. A nice friendly personality to help you on your way.
This project has been a thoroughly rewarding experience for us at Seed - being part of the creative team that helped to develop this campaign from early days, and working with some phenomenal talent along the way. Big thanks to Mark Orbine, Andy Leahy, Tony Hector, Maxine Denton and Joseph Fathers at VCCP for giving us the opportunity and creating a warm and inviting creative atmosphere.

All In - Free Fire World Series 2021 Singapore
We were approached by Garena to tell the story of 4 young heroes, bound by their love of Free Fire, who are abruptly thrust into another world and forced to fight for their lives, using skills honed through years of online gaming. Through a series of epic battles, our ragtag team learn the value of teamwork and self-sacrifice to defeat a common enemy.
With this project Garena gave us the freedom to explore a bold new look for the franchise, something that would set this video apart from so many others out there. We landed on something we think is really unique, making use of chunky, textured linework, paired with impressionistic, painterly backgrounds, and savage action sequences.
We’re incredibly grateful to the team at Garena who backed us the whole way, collaborating with us to take this film to a new and unexpected place.
Type S: Chiaki’s Journey
It’s difficult to say how many people in the world are obsessed with both motor racing and Japanese animation, but one thing we know for sure is that several of these people are employed at The Line Animation Studio LTD. This project lands slap-bang in the centre of the venn diagram of things we love.
We’ve spent the last 10 years honing our skills in the arena of 2D animated action, whilst simultaneously developing processes and tools that seamlessly mix hand-drawn and 3D animation. This was the perfect opportunity to blend those two approaches and showcase our passion and craftsmanship for these hybrid animation techniques.
