Using Crowdacting to Maximize Political Freedom and Autonomy
Crowdactions are conditional cooperative collective actions, what are sometimes called assurance contracts. Crowdacting are like crowdfunding, but instead of each person putting in a bit of money, we all put in a promise for an action, so the risks or costs are distributed. Just as crowdfunding has put the masses on the same footing as the wealthy as patrons of the arts, assurance contracts can become a powerful mechanism of accountability in the arena of politics both by facilitating direct action and by distributing risk in groups vulnerable to an attack against the weakest or most visible link. Brian Russell discusses the limitations of a server-centralized system and discuss possibilities of decentralization using a blockchain. ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bTi-wJZ_pKk

I don't think there was any question that there was some political motivation in the creation of [Bitcoin], both by the developers and by the community of users in those first important years while this technology was accepted by people. It's really interesting, the blockchain usage here at PorcFest because this community is where I first heard about this technology in 2012, and I always consider this a good test bed because there's a lot of very smart people here who care about his and have been using the technology for a long time... you definitely are at no shortage of interesting conversations at PorcFest, that's for sure.
