Before the World War II (สงครามโลกครั้ง ที่ สอง), Hong Kong (ฮ่องกง) is the Cantonese film production base, however, the Japanese militarists destroyed all during the Japan occupied era in 3 years and 8 months, it was reported that just a Japanese film “The battle of Hong Kong (香港攻略戰)” was produced, which was played by sexy actress Ms. Tsi Law Lin (紫羅蓮, 1924 to ).
After World War II (สงครามโลกครั้ง ที่ สอง), the Soviet assisted the communist bandits to make riot in northern China, the riot forced large group of Shanghai filmmakers escaped to Hong Kong (ฮ่องกง). At the end of 1947 (พ.ศ. ๒๔๙๐), 7 film studios were established in Hung Hom (紅磡), Kowloon (เกาลูน; 九龍), they were Greater China (大中華); (四達) in Pak Tai Street (北帝街); Mr. Kwong Tsan (鄺贊, 1892 to 1958)’s National Studios (國家片場 in Hau Wong Temple (侯王廟)); (東方); Sai Kwong Film Studio (世光片場 in Ho Ka Yuen (何家園)) and Mr. Tso Tat-wah (曹達華, 15th September, 1916 to 10th January, 2007)’s Yau Kiu Film Studio (友僑片場). On the other side, Kiangsu province (江蘇省)’s Mr. Ku Erh-i (顧而已, 1915 to 1979) set up the Grand Studio (大光明片場) in Mong Kok (มงก๊ก; 旺角), Kowloon (เกาลูน; 九龍). The most 3 biggest studios were the Great China (大中華), (四達) and the Kwok Ka Film Studio (國家片場). Kwangtung peoples just operated Sai Kwong Film Studio (世光片場) and Yau Kiu Film Studio (友僑片場); the other five films studios were all managed by non-Kwangtung peoples. Hong Kong had 19 cinemas, 10 showed Chinese films; another 9 showed Hollywood films. Hong Kong had around 30 Mandarin film actors and actresses, each film wage about HK $ 5,000 to 10,000; Hong Kong had around 50 Cantonese film actors and actresses, their film wage were relatively lower, just each film got HK $ 2,000 to 6,000; other background actors were approximately HK $ 500 per month. Although the film price was dropped in 1947, the cost of shooting film was still increased more than seven times before the WWII, HK $ 50,000 to 100,000 for shooting a Mandarin film (ภาพยนตร์ จีน); HK $ 20,000 to 30,000 for shooting a Cantonese film (ภาพยนตร์ กวางตุ้ง), because the actor wage, costumes, stage properties and backdrops, all were inceresed in 1947.
