"Die Bärensuppe": Elias Tsolakidis (O Topos Mou) and Bilbo Calvez - English subtitles available
Without actually setting out to, Elias Tsolakidis has taken huge strides towards a society that can run itself entirely without money. But this isn't his primary focus. First and foremost, he cares about his fellow men in Greece. He cares about equity and also about changing farcical situations.

Elias' efforts began in the year 2007, with a campaign to protect Mount Olympus from forest fire. Living a stone's throw from Olympus in a little city named Katerini in the northern part of Greece, he then established the citizens initiative "O Topos Mou". Meaning in English "My Place", "O Topos Mou" has grown significantly in the last few years. Now, at the time of crisis, the project is becoming ever more important for people suffering austerity.

At the beach, Elias tells us first about the development, the success and the future of the project before he describes how free cooperation and a moneyless society works at a practical level.
What do you do, for instance, with people who take the help for granted and don't see how precious a gift it is; throwing away cooked rice because they do not like it, rather than give it to others; coming late or not at all, not being willing to accept responsibility, people who take but give little back. Are there people who wouldn't operate in a free society?
Could it be that these people won't participate because, or as long as, they are not contributing to the development of the rules? Are they just lazy? How might you open these people up? Is it possible?

Elias is not a social worker. He thinks practically. If worst comes to worst he sets forth simple ideas. "O Topos Mou" is a prototype for a new society that dispenses with rivalry and reinforces cooperation. Necessity begets ingenuity. From this perspective the crisis in Europe is an opportunity. This dialogue is part of the art project „Die Bärensuppe“.

The contended vision of a moneyless society, specifically described as decentralized, non-monetary, open-source anarchy, is the main aim. The soup, the pot, meeting at a social fireplace is the metaphor for a society that has empathy as a main goal and not elbows. You give to the „Bärensuppe“ what you want and and what you can. You take what you need and wish. Counting, comparing and rating do not exist. Everyone eats from the same soup, so it should taste and provide enough for every person. It is about rediscovering the basic trust and experience that we are all connected, deep inside, even if we have forgotten that.

The project „Die Bärensuppe“ consists of a visual element, interviews with people who are handling money differently than usual. Pioneers of this turning point or people who are announcing a transition with their campaigns, preparation, introductions or tho
