The CANDELS Survey: The largest project in the history of Hubble
The CANDELS Survey has been 902 assigned orbits of observing time on the Hubble Space Telescope. That's a total of four months if done all at once; in practice though, the survey will be conducted over three years.
So, what are they doing while they hog up all the time on the most important scientific instrument ever launched?
They are using that time to look at the most distant regions of the universe, to a time when the universe was less that 1 billion years old, at time known as 'Cosmic Dawn'.
The search for planets around other stars is heating up. So far, there are over 4,000 confirmed exoplanets. What would the Earth look like in one of these searches?
NASA will soon wrap up four concept studies of major space observatories that could launch sometime in the coming couple decades. One of these is the Large UV/optical/IR (LUVOIR) Surveyor.
LUVOIR is a concept for a highly capable, multi-wavelength observatory with ambitious science goals. This mission would enable a major leap forward in a broad range of astrophysics, from the era of galaxy formation and evolution, to star and planet formation. LUVOIR also has the exciting goal of characterizing a wide range of exoplanets, including those that might be habitable - or even inhabited.
Join Tony Darnell and Harley Thronson as they discuss this concept with Drs. John O’Meara (St. Michael’s College), Debra Fischer (Yale University), and Matthew Bolcar (NASA Goddard Space Flight Center).
Future in Space Hangouts are endorsed by the American Astronomical Society and the American Astronautical Society.

Senior NASA leadership has often observed that humans are closer to their first mission to Mars than ever before in history. Critical to human exploration of Mars will be active and healthy astronauts when they arrive at the Red Planet.
Join Tony Darnell, Harley Thronson and Alberto Conti as they discuss with Drs. Arnauld Nicogossian (George Mason University) and Charles Doarn (University of Cincinnati) current knowledge that underpins human health in space, as well as engineering challenges in long-duration human space flight.

The SDO launches tomorrow! I have a terrible headcold, so I can't do any narration right now, but I really wanted to let Space Fans know about this exciting new solar spacecraft.
I had a very small role to play in the SDO/HMI project and was going to attend the launch, but life kinda got in the way.
Here is an outline of the science that the SDO team hopes to accomplish If you're a 2012 solar storm watcher, this is the spacecraft to keep an eye on.

How would you like to own a telescope that has the same design as some of the world's best observatories? The off-axis telescope is unique in that there is no secondary obstruction to mess up your image but the mirror configuration is not easy to construct. In this hangout, we'll talk with a group in Germany who has produced smaller versions of telescopes that will be used in larger telescopes like the DKIST solar telescope and other really cool observatories.

Happy Dark Matter Day! In honor of Halloween, let's take a look at what treats are in store for us. There is a beautiful waxing gibbous moon following the mighty planet Saturn in the early evening. We also have the stellar corpse of the Ring Nebula; the Halloween fireballs of the Taurid Meteors and so much more.

Let’s talk about ExoMoons, you know, those moons in orbit around other planets around other stars in our galaxy. Is it possible that they might be better harbors for life? Even in our own solar system, the moons Europa and Enceladus look the most promising, even better than Mars. So, what about elsewhere? Could life be better found on an exomoon around and exoplanet around another star?
