The planned merger between SCA and UNSW Art and Design fell over last week in an embarrassing backflip by the University of Sydney, but management still plan to close SCA's Callan Park campus and have already slashed the Bachelor of Visual Arts from the 2017 academic calendar.
The NTEU is calling on University management to Let SCA Stay and to engage in a genuine, good faith collaborative process to secure its future. This must include an immediate reinstatement of enrolments in the Bachelor of Visual Arts for 2017, and a commitment to staff and incoming students that the University will honour its stated commitment to excellence in visual arts education.
The NTEU has organised a rally on main campus at 1pm on August 17. Come along to hear more about the dispute from those involved, and show your solidarity with SCA staff and students.
NTEU members are asked to encourage students to attend the rally. The NTEU supports the student strike and asks members to not penalise students supporting the campaign.
Join us at the rally — Let SCA - Wednesday 17 August, 1pm–2pm, Madsen Building

Western Australia´s Burrup Peninsula is the world's largest outdoor rock engraving site, containing rock art of world importance possibly dating back to 30,000 years ago, including possibly the first ever representation of the human face in history. The Western Australian Government is still planning to turn part of this site into a natural gas production and processing facility against the wishes of some of the site`s Aboriginal custodians and the scientific community.

In response to proposed cutbacks in Staffing Levels at Sydney University, Students
Occupy Staff Offices to make their feelings known to the Management who have
so far kept them out of the loop.

Message that was stuck to the door of the Vice Chancellors Office at Sydney University. 4th April 2012
" We, students of Sydney University, put the vice chancellor & management on notice. You are warned: you have until the end of the study break (15/04/2012) to publicly withdraw the cuts outlined in the change plan, or we commit to a campaign of escalating mass direct action targeting university management & administrative centres. We deserve & demand a quality education, but you have left us voiceless in the decisions that affect our education. So instead of words we will use the power of students to disrupt the smooth functioning of the university. If you will not back down; nor will we. Ours is the democratic voice of the majority, & we will not cease in our actions until our demands are met."
