This is an interesting reaction where two clear solutions are mixed, then after a period of time a sudden and drastic color change occurs.

Today I will be making some glow sticks from scratch. Ill be starting with basic chemicals and making a main glow stick chemical, TCPO. I combine the TCPO with a few other chemicals and make some homemade glow sticks.

In this video we will be making glacial acetic acid from anhydrous sodium acetate.
Note: I am going on vacation from July 8 for at least 2 months. So there will be limited video production. I have at least 10 videos to edit and release, which will be done once I return!

The synthesis of iron (II) sulfide involves reacting 1 equivalent of sulfur with 1 equivalent of iron. The reaction is initiated by a hot glass stirring rod into it. It is an extremely exothermic reaction.
This is an interesting reaction to use as a demonstration, but the product is useful. The Iron (II) sulfide, or FeS, can be reacted with hydrochloric acid to produce hydrogen sulfide gas. This is a very useful gas, but it is extremely toxic.

If you plan on eating your final product, you should buy high concentration (95%+) ethanol from the liqueur store. Using acetone is likely okay, but you never really know what contaminants there are in it.
The followup to this video will be showing how the extract can be used to make some extremely potent pepper spray.

So, as usual, I made a bunch of mistakes and decided to re-upload...
Today we are working with a vanadium compound for the first time! The reaction that produces the ammonium metavanadate is called a metathesis reaction (I forgot to say it in the video).
Ill be using the ammonium metavanadate to make adipic acid, the redox rainbow, and the mandelin reagent.

In this video, bromine is made from pool supplies and muriatic acid (HCl).
The yield was around 75%. However, the amount of HCl used was much less than stoichiometric. I thought that this would reduce the possibility of HCl contamination in the final bromine product.
