DoubleTap Full Review: Don't Shoot Reloads! 1st outing, not so good, my fault...

After calling up DoubleTap and explaining the problems I was having, they firmly believed it was caused by my ammunition choices. Just because I have fired literally thousands (maybe 5k) of the ammo you see in this video without issue, does NOT mean it's correct for every gun. DT suggests using U.S. specification, name-brand, factory new ammunition and, well, they were right. I shot Federal, Blazer, and American Eagle on my next range outing with 100% success. Now, I think the gun also needed to break in, as I also shot about a dozen of the same reloads through it on the second outing and I had none of the barrels jamming closed issues, but I still did have problems with stuck cases. Zero stuck cases with factory ammo. So... Please watch my other video for a much more fair review of the Tactical Pocket Pistol!!! (edit: 06/27/2013.... 2nd video will be up tonight)
...Despite all of this, I hope you enjoy this review video. I found it pretty funny to watch afterwards, and kind of funny to see me struggle and swear with it. Man, this little thing kicks like a mule!!! Pretty crazy, considering it weighs almost exactly the same amount as my Beretta Nano, yet I can shoot that thing all day long, even with +P ammo, and not even think twice about it. Two shots through the Double Tap and you might start debating how important target practice / training actually is. And this is the 9mm! Shooting standard pressure, 115 grain target ammo. I can only imagine that the .45 ACP would be a bit worse. My GEN3 GLOCK 20 SF exploded while doing some IIIA body armor testing. After investigating it as thoroughly as possible, it does appear to have been ammo-caused. Could have been an overcharged round, could have been a loose bullet that got shoved down into the case when chambered [EDIT: Underwood examined the ammo and this is exactly what happened!], etc., but it was almost certainly something that was "off" with the ammo. That said, I still have great respect for *and* trust in Underwood Ammo. I've shot hundreds of their rounds, including through this very gun, and have had zero issues whatsoever. They have an extremely good reputation, and for good reason. In fact, this may be the first ammo-caused problem I've heard of with somebody shooting Underwood. Not only that, but their customer service was *GREAT* and they stood behind this and are replacing everything that was damaged. They made the process very easy and were responsive, gracious, and apologetic. Additionally, this sort of incident has happened with every major ammo manufacturer...Winchester, Federal, Remington, PMC, etc etc etc...if you make enough ammo a couple bum rounds are going to get out there. It's an inherent risk we all take as shooters. What with holding a little explosion in our hands and all. Mechanical devices fail. I will continue to shoot Underwood and feel confident in it. I may just shoot with gloves more often haha

Taking a close look at the trigger pull & reset on the Ruger American Pistol & comparing to that of a GLOCK 19. Regarding the thumb knuckle thing...
Tim of Military Arms Channel really hammered the RAP hard for this section of the frame (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxqL9L-0sN8), saying that the width and generally square-ish shape beat the living heck out of his thumb knuckle and that of a handful of other people who shot the gun.
Apparently I grip a pistol a bit differently, as do the other folks in my neck of the woods who test drove the RAP, as everybody found it to be a comfortable grip and nobody was affected by this thumb knuckle issue. That said, I guarantee it *will* be an issue for some people, as I can reproduce what Tim’s talking about very easily by really cramming my hand upwards hard into the bottom of the frame there and/or by pressing my right thumb hard into the frame. I usually ride my right thumb on top of my left thumb, but for shooters who hold their right thumb lower (which seems to make that knuckle stick out more) and especially for those who overlap left thumb on top of right, the back corner of the frame may contact that knuckle.
