Many local issues have no obvious "left" or "right," "red" or "blue" solution. The electorate holds elected and appointed local government officials accountable for finding tangible solutions to challenging problems. Success depends on working directly and effectively with their constituencies, who are also their neighbors and with whom they often have complex and deep ties.
