Actuator Crash or How to Destroy a $25,000 Actuator | Special Projects
This is a video of a testing platform we made for an OEM customer. They can drive up any car on the platform and test the vehicle vibrations using their choice of Unity, Unreal Engine or any other software type. This is our mock up, the real platform resided in Germany.
The actuators were custom made for us by a well know company. We custom made the feet and the test platform. The platform unloaded was no more than a 500 lbs. However in this example, simply hitting the limit of the actuator resulted in catastrophic failure, broken parts and a rebuild. One of the components was UNDER specified and failed during this mild impact. :-\
Is 2" enough?
This was supposed to be a quick 2 lap demo of the Dynamic Scaling Algorithm in action... (more information here: https://www.sigmaintegrale.com/document-dynamic-scaling-algorithm/)
However, these truck are too much fun as were the multiple attempts to get under 1:19.5xx while talking is obviously something we don't and can't do well. :-\
We are using the default setup on the Crandon track. (https://www.iracing.com/tracks/crandon-international-raceway/) Felt like there was another 2 - 3 seconds somewhere. Maybe less sideways and more slow and steady.

Here we are testing a special project created back in 2018 for PTC company in Boston, MA. The Polaris Turbo S side by side has all the original equipment still inside it including the engine, transmission, gauges and electronics.
Sigma replaced the actuators with their own custom spring assisted units capable of 12" of travel front and back. The gauges and controls are fully functional and the vehicle sits on special custom made slip pads that allow for the changes in the vehicles track and wheelbase as the suspension articulates. Previously the experience relied on @assettocorsaofficial and now also runs @beamng software.
This is just a quick video showing our electrical engineer testing and tuning the vehicle for optimal haptic feedback. All our professional home systems (https://www.sigmai.co) are an evolution of our past real vehicle motion systems integrations. Sigma has integrated 20+ real vehicles in the past decade.
