Blue can be found on Cinnabar Island and he will return to the Viridian City gym once you speak with him. Go to the Viridian City gym and battle him. His team is the same as he was the champion in the first generation. Pidgeot will sometimes use Mirror Move to mock your move while Alakazam will use Reflect to weaken physical attack damage. Rhydon will use Sandstorm to slightly damage those for 5 turns except for 3 types. Gyarados will combo with Rain Dance then Hydro Pump and finish the target off with Hyper Beam. Exeggutor has a combo with Sunny Day and SolarBeam. Arcanine will use Extremespeed to strike first as its signature move. After winning, you’ll receive the Earth Badge.

During your post-game quest, go back to Undella Town and you’ll see Hugh there. Talk to him and he will give you an HM06 (Dive). After that, you can then battle him for the 6th time. New to his team are Flygon and Eelektross. Flygon will use Stone Edge for extra chances of critical hits. Eelektross will use Flamethrower in case any Grass types are on the field. After the battle, Hugh will go to the safehouse in Driftveil City. Zinzolin will then show up to give you paperwork that Ghetsis left behind so you can read and decipher the markings as you explore the Abyssal Ruins.

Some blocks are invisible but if you turn into a statue with the Tanooki Suit, the blocks will show. Go through the door by the green all and you’ll find the first A Coin after a Paratroopa. Go back outside and through the door by the orange wall. Scale the room and enter the next door on top of the blue wall. Use the Tanooki Suit to fly and follow the coins. Throw vegetables to break a bubble containing the 2nd A Coin. Next, use the door by a block containing a vine and scale your way up to a yellow switch. Press the yellow switch then make your way down to press a P Switch. Enter the door from a platform and you’ll find the 4th A Coin. Enter another door from a platform and turn into statue to break gray blocks. The 5 A Coin is in a maze of invisible blocks with big and little Hotheads. Gather all of those coins and go back outside so you can go to the goal.

Marshal uses Fighting type Pokémon. Throh will use Storm Throw that will always result in critical hits. Sawk will use Grass Knot on heavy foes although it is not skilled in using special attacks. Mienshao will use Rock Slide to make opponents flinch and U-turn for a hit-and-switch. A move like Psychic would be a good move for this battle.

The Angler Fish will bounce around the room, releasing bubbles. Use the Seed Shooter with Scent Seeds attached to knock the Angler Fish down and deflate it. The weak point is the flashing core on its forehead, so do some sword strikes on it before the fish inflates again. Keep hitting the flashing core on the forehead and you’ll defeat the fish.

Cerulean City’s gym leader, Misty is an expert on Water type Pokémon. Starmie will be the hard part as it has great speed and Misty will sometimes use X Defend items on it.
