The series marked the first time that Star Wars delved into the realm of live-action TV shows, and the results have been better than imagined. Grogu (or Baby Yoda if you prefer) is one of the most recognizable faces of the entire Disney-owned era of the franchise, and the central Mandalorian, Din Djarin, has become a fan favorite as one of the coolest characters to come from the Star Wars universe. The series’ success has paved the way for a slew of new live-action Star Wars shows that continue to come down the pipeline, and with season three premiering in February things are only looking up for this series. Star Wars has a lengthy history of great content. Whether it be the original trilogy, the prequels, the various animated series, or spin-off movies, there’s an array of content for Star Wars fans to love and watch endlessly. However, amongst all that material nothing has matched the quality of the original trio of films, A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi. While some may argue that either Rogue One or the Clone Wars animated series have come the closest, The Mandalorian is the property that has best upheld the legacy of the original trilogy the best and come closest to matching its quality. Here’s how: At its core, the story of The Mandalorian is about as straightforward as Star Wars can get. It’s a man with a tough exterior doing his best to take care of a child. With the exception of the pilot episode, every episode of this series has Din doing something new that he believes will be best for Grogu. Whether it be fighting a Krayt Dragon at the beginning of season two, or helping a small village fend off a group of raiders mid-way through season one, every chapter of The Mandalorian is ultimately about Din protecting Grogu. The simplicity of that story keeps the series from getting overly complicated or bogged down in the complex lore of Star Wars. It helps the show to maintain its accessibility to mainstream audiences, as they do not need to be familiar with the stories of the overall universe to enjoy The Mandalorian. On top of that, the series presents a new story for the universe. Unlike every Star Wars film, the basis of The Mandalorian is not defined by its relationship to the original films. All nine films in the Skywalker Saga, as incredible as some of them are, are intensely focused on continuing the same story. Whether it be Anakin’s fall to the dark side in the prequels, Luke’s defeat of the Sith in the original trilogy, or Rey embracing the family legacy in the sequel trilogy, all of those stories tie the Skywalker Saga together in an interesting but somewhat restrictive manner. Even the likes of Rogue One and Solo are pitched entirely by their proximity to the original trilogy. The Mandalorian doesn’t bother with all of that. It’s a new story set in a new time period, and it is primarily focused on entirely new characters. Because of that, the series is free to tell whatever story it wants, which dramatically expands the horizons of what Star Wars can be. Box Office projections for the next MCU film, The Marvels, are looking horrendous. And we are going to have that conversation today, with you, but before we do, lets take a look back at the marvels, brie larson, and why things are not only looking good for the movie, but the MCU as a whole. The MCU would be forever changed on may 8th, 2019, when Captain Marvel debuted on the big screen. Captain Marvel, played by the now infamous Brie Larson, was about the air force pilot Carol Danvers being discovered by the Kree and trained as a member of the elite starforce military under the command of her mentor. In the captain marvel story, after some 6 years had passed, Danvers discovers that there’s more to her past than she realized and with the help of SHIELD agent Nick Fury, she tries to uncover those secrets while harnessing her special superpowers to end the war with the skrulls. The Marvels and Brie Larson Critics seemed pleased with the film and had it scored about a 79 percent, but the fans and audience destroyed the movie. Currently, it has a 45 percent audience score on rotten tomatoes. This movie was a major let down for marvel as they looked to continue creating films in a post-end game world. Many MCU fans were horrified at the slow paced story, Brie Larson’s performance, having a nonsensical story with various plot holes, and kickstarting the M-SHE-U, or Marvel Misandry Movement. The Marvels and Brie Larson The Sequel, titled The Marvels, was originally slated for a 2022 summer release. THen it was moved back to November 11. Then February 17, 2023. Then July 28, 2023. Now, it’s will debut on November 10, 2023, maybe. The Marvels and brie larson So why is this film looking like it is going to be a failure? A major reason is Brie Larson. It’s been reported that she has been a nightmare to work with on set, and she has been unhappy with the title of the film. She wanted it to be Captain Marvel 2, not “the marvels”. After all, captain america, ironman, and thor, he real heroes of the marvel cinematic universe, had their properly titled sequels. Another problem the film faces is that there just isn’t enough demand for yet another female-centric movie. While Captain Marvel was made on a 130 million dollar budget and brough in over 1.1 billion at the box office, that was on the heels of the Infinity Sage, and was easy. It benefited with great timing. This time, the timing will more than likely have the opposite effect. With each MCU movie released, interest continues to drop, and The Marvels looks like it is going to be on big fat loss again for Marvel and Disney.
