Party of the Shepherd and the cheese in Mosteiro-Penaverde (Aguiar da Beira) 2017
Penaverde is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Aguiar da Beira, with 29.4 km² of area and 813 inhabitants (2011). Its population density is of 27,7 hab / km ².
Located in the southeastern part of the county, the parish of Penaverde has as its neighbors the parishes of the Eirado to the north, Carapito to the northeast, Forninhos to the southwest, Dornelas to the west and Cortiçada to the northwest and the county of Fornos de Algodres to the southeast.
It was village and county seat between 1240 and 1836. It was constituted by the parishes of Dornelas, Forninhos, Pena Verde and Queiriz. It had, in 1801, 1 977 inhabitants.
It integrates the place of Mosteiro, where there is a Feast of the Shepherd and the Cheese of Aguiar da Beira.
Penaverde is an essentially agricultural area, with the pastoral and cheese production sectors occupying around 40% of the population of the parish.
It is not a very rich area in terms of agriculture, and pastoralism is a more profitable activity. The other area with the highest employability is civil construction.
