Tourist Attractions of the World Travel Blog: Death Railway, Bridge over the river Kwai
This episode of the series features the DEATH RAILWAY which is in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. The WW2 railway was built by POWs for the Japanese, traversing Thailand and Burma, through rugged terrain.
The 2-hour plus journey goes through to NamTok which is in Thailand, just on the border. Each leg was 100 baht and Thai's travel free, unless the ticket office guy fancies a small bonus by telling us my wife needs to pay if she sits with me.
The trestle bridge is a feat of engineering and can be seen in more detail in Colin in Thailand's video, details below.
There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility. In this episode I go to Dyrham Park and House and have an uplifting time using the bus and entering the threshold. It was a bit wet but a borrowed brolly sorted it.
This is part two of a two part episode

23rd August 2017 Part Three
Day 17
We head off to the temple area to have a look round and battle the stairs and non-disabled friendly surfaces. Inside we say a prayer and give an offering.
Chuck and Paige wait outside for us to go around and look, because they've seen it all before.
A walk around the market is next on the list.
Back at the house there's loads of chat however I did not include most of it. It will be a special "Chuck's Wisdom", where I condense everything down to a few lines.

There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility. In this episode I go back to Stourhead, this time to visit the house. Because my battery died I wasn't able to visit the house. It was listed in the guide book as having a stair climber and loan wheelchair, although to be honest I'd misread this as ramps. As I discovered, you need to book before you go and perhaps if I had read the accessibility guide again, I might have known this. However, this is the point of doing these blogs.

This day out is visiting the famous I.K.Brunel designed and built steam ship, which was returned from the Falkland Islands in 1970, 127 years after leaving. It has been lovingly restored and preserved over the intervening years, to be a flag-ship (forgive the pun) tourist attraction in Bristol.
I was given a free journalistic pass to test out the accessibility of the venue and I was not disappointed. The day was only marred by my own stupidity and not following the signs in the order given.
I really enjoyed the day out which you can see in two parts, this being part one.

Here's a travel blog in the UK Places series, using my new kit - which makes all the difference to the quality and stability. This episode I am in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
The story of Salisbury began 2,500 years ago when an iron age fort was built on Salisbury Hill about 2 miles north of the modern town center. In the 6th century AD the Saxons invaded Wiltshire. In 552 Saxons and Celts fought a battle at Salisbury Hill. The Celts were defeated and fled westwards. The fort probably lay abandoned for centuries.
However by the early 11th century a settlement had grown up on the site of the old fort. In 1003 the Vikings raided Wilton some of the survivors may have fled to the safety of Salisbury Hill and founded a new settlement. The new town had a mint and a market.
About 1069 William the Conqueror built a wooden castle to overlook the settlement and keep the inhabitants in line. In 1075 a bishop moved his seat there. However Sarisberie, as it was called, was a small settlement, much smaller than nearby Wilton. It probably only had a population of a few hundred.
The modern town of Salisbury began about the year 1217 when the Bishop decided to move his seat to land owned by the church south of the hill. Perhaps there was friction between the clergy and the soldiers in the Norman castle. A shortage of water on the hill may have been another reason for the move. He created a new town on the plain. The Bishop laid out streets in a grid pattern and leased plots of land for building houses. So a new settlement grew up at Salisbury but the town at Old Sarum continued for centuries.

This is my new series of vlogs. I am NOT an expert and I do NOT know everything, so what I say in these vlogs is based on my personal experience or research. I have been a visitor to Thailand for 2 years this month (October), I first went on a "last ditch, what the hell" trip following my failed back surgery. I could hardly walk and took my walking aid with me. I went to Udon Thani to go to an Agency for finding Thai ladies, who suggested that my disablement was not a factor in finding a nice lady for long term relationship. The agency allegedly vet the members and a lot of their clients come from America. The owner is an ex-Brit and his wife a Thai, had started the agency because of their experiences with relationships etc.
So, I have a Thai wife and have been going back and forth for two years. During 2015 my wife got a visitor visa and came to the UK for 6 months. Unfortunately the UK Immigration denied a second visa this year based on made up reasons.
THIS EPISODE: Can you own and buy property in Thailand? The short answer is YES, however the caveat is that you will never own the land that the property stands on. Best bet, buy a condo or put the land in your wife's name (if you trust her that much). Would make interesting conversation if you ever split up, because how do you move a house? ;)
