Report: Code Pink Demonstrates Outside AIPAC
Five protestors were arrested at a Pro-Palestine rally on Sunday afternoon in front of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Northwest DC. The protestors were arrested while blocking the entrance to the center where the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) is holding its annual policy conference.
About 150 people attended the rally organized by CODEPINK–a women-led NGO that organizes anti-war protests across the country. Coined #ShutDownAIPAC, the rally's purpose was to draw attention to AIPAC’s role as a pro-Israel lobby in US policies, and Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu's trip to the US as a guest speaker for both AIPAC, and a joint session at Congress taking place tomorrow.
"Its important to challenge AIPAC's influence in Washington DC, and to show our strength in numbers today," says Alli McCracken, CODEPINK'S National Organizer. CODEPINK and other pro-Palestine organizations are urging the US government to advocate for diplomacy with Iran and condemn Israel's siege of the Gaza Strip.
Madea Benjamin, CODEPINK''s Founder, believes that Diplomacy with Iran is key to keeping peace in the region.
"If you look at where we stand as a nation right now, and with all the violence that’s happening in the middle east, it’s a very scary time" Benjamin says. "If these negotiations with Iran don't come to fruition, that could mean a war with Iran. Unfortunately, AIPAC is adding fuel to the fire."
Some have criticized the Pro-Palestine movement as anti-Semetic. McCracken says this is not the case. "Criticizing the government policies of another country isn't the same as criticizing an ethnicity or a religion" McCracken satates. "You cannot conflate anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism." More demonstrations will take place throughout the week, including another rally during Netanyahu’s appearance at AIPAC on Monday, and a march to House Speaker, John Boehner's house on Tuesday.

"What do you want? Climate justice!" led Representative Rashida Tlaib in chants with Climate Defiance activists in front of the White House Thursday afternoon, as smoke from Canadian wildfires misted the air. "When do we want it? Now!"
The group risked arrest by protesting on the sidewalk where demonstrations aren't allowed, some even tying their wrists to one another as they sat down.
"Don't ignore this toxic dust!" chanted the activists. "Biden, you are killing us!"
"Our planet is on fire! Put the fire out!" they yelled, ultimately concluding without arrests after the police waited the rally out.

In a departure from their ordinary protest tactics, Portland's antifa movement held a standup comedy roast of Mayor Ted Wheeler (D) while advocating for him to be recalled from office Tuesday afternoon.
"Before we roast our mayor, I just want to say that deep down, he's a good guy. I bet about six feet deep down, he's an excellent human being," said a black-bloc clad speaker in the opening act. "Ten feet down is about the perfect depth I would say to meet Ted Wheeler at."
"Nobody has done more as a mayor for Portland than Ted Wheeler making us a true sanctuary city for Proud Boys," he added.

Alt-right protesters clashed with a brigade of antifa counter-demonstrators today at the White House. The alt-right, which included Richard Spencer, Mike Enoch, and Matthew Heimbach, advocated for "Kate's Wall," a reference to Kate Steinle, who was killed by an illegal immigrant. Antifa proclaimed that they do not support Steinle's murder, but that "immigrants are welcome here."
"It's not just about this one case," said Eli Mosley, the new leader of Identity Evropa, a prominent white nationalist group.
Although harsh words were exchanged, police barricaded the two sides and swiftly escorted the right-wingers away from the White House. Richard Spencer escaped in a private van, while the others were followed by a police escort into Farragut Square Metro.
Matthew Heimbach, leader of the National Socialist "Traditionalist Worker's Party," said he was happy that the police allowed both sides to speak, as permitted by the US constitution. He then clarified that he only supports the constitution "when it's convenient."

Today "Progressive Anti Abortion Uprising" ("PAAU") held a presser (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iliqxZ10_ZQ) about the five fetuses recovered from their Director of Activism Lauren Handy's Washington DC home.
Handy says she had taken 115 fetuses that were disposed of by an abortion clinic, but 110 were in their first trimester, which she gave the 110 a funeral.
PAAU founder and "atheist, leftist" Terrisa Bukovinac says she and Handy got a box from a medical waste management services driver, which they later opened and found the fetuses.
They claim five appear to have been aborted by too late, in violation of federal law.
News2Share spoke to Handy following the event, who describes understanding why headlines about fetuses in her home made people "rightfully upset" but hopes the event could clarify and end the "wild speculation" about what happened.
Handy also clarifies that she identifies as a "Catholic Anarchist."
"I'm far left, and I believe our liberation must include both born and unborn," she says.
Bukovinac told News2Share she feels "relieved" at the conclusion of this presser to "set the record straight."
She says left-leaning anti-abortion groups are "stigmatized, shamed" by broader left, but cites Marx in explaining her own anti-abortion position.
