Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office --- A little before 8:15 p.m. on January 15, 2021, members of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Gang Suppression Unit (GSU) were conducting a follow-up investigation regarding a possible gang-related shooting in the southern region of Sacramento County. During the investigation, evidence gathered led detectives to a location in Carmichael near Ranger Way and Rampart Drive. Detectives located a vehicle connected to the investigation, occupied by at least two subjects. Gang Detectives attempted to contact the occupants of the vehicle. At some point during the contact, multiple shots were fired striking one detective and the suspect. Fire personnel responded; however, upon arrival, they pronounced the suspect identified as 25-year-old Kershawn Geiger, deceased at the scene. The wounded detective was transported from the scene to an area hospital for treatment. Detectives say he was a 25-year-old Kershawn Geiger, a known of the 24th Street Crips gang member with a history of serious crimes. He was on parole at the time. Multiple regional agencies assisted and established a perimeter of the surrounding area. Neighboring residents were advised to stay inside. After several hours of searching, the tactical teams were unable to locate any additional subjects involved in the incident. Homicide detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene and began interviewing witnesses and processing evidence. This investigation is still in its early stages and information is still developing. The wounded detective remains hospitalized in serious, but stable condition and is expected to survive. The detective is 47 years old and a 15-year veteran of the Sheriff’s Office. The detective has held several assignments within the Sheriff’s Office including his current assignment in the Gang Suppression Unit. The other occupant of the vehicle during the time of the incident was arrested and later booked at Sacramento County Main Jail on felony charges unrelated to this incident. This is a critical incident video regarding the officer involved shooting that took place on June 27, 2020. The San Diego Police Department has identified the suspect who was shot by two uniformed police officers Saturday night. In a release sent Sunday, Lt. Matt Dobbs said the suspect has been identified as Leonardo Hurtado Ibarra, 25, of San Diego. Ibarra remains in the Intensive Care Unit with life- threatening injuries, according to Dobbs. Two San Diego Police Department officers have been placed on paid leave after they shot and wounded a man who pointed a gun at one of the officers during a confrontation in downtown Saturday night. According to witnesses, shots rang out around 6 p.m. near the corner of 6th Avenue and B Street, a few blocks east of the San Diego Civic Center. SDPD said that officers spotted a man wanted in connection with a robbery that happened earlier this week. Police said officers tried to talk with the man but he walked away. The man then dropped some items from his arms and "reached into his waistband." "He produced a handgun and then pointed it at the officers" said SDPD Capt. Rich Freedman. "For fear that they were going to be shot, the officers return fire." A gun has been recovered from the scene, police said. Police said the man was wounded and transported to a hospital with unknown injuries. According to police, the man was having surgery late Saturday night. The man was described as a 25-year-old Hispanic male. SDPD said he was wanted for a robbery that happened June 21. SDPD tweeted a grainy still image taken from a nearby surveillance camera showing at least one officer with their gun drawn and a man dressed in red pointing an object at the officer. The object the man is holding isn't clear in the photograph. A second officer is also seen in the still image. Protesters gathered in the area, yelling at officers and holding signs demanding justice. "We are asking for them to be who they say they are which is trust transparency building relationships, and we have not seen that yet," said activist Tasha Williamson. "That is why we are out here by the hundreds and the thousands and we’re going to continue to be out here." The officers involved in the shooting are on paid administrative leave while the investigation is conducted, which is standard protocol. On this date, Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office (“JSO”) Officer Josue Garriga (“Officer Garriga”)was deployed as part of a JSO initiative aimed at reducing violent crime. 1 While working on thisdeployment initiative, Officer Garriga conducted a traffic stop of Jamee Johnson (“Johnson”) for driving without a seat belt, a violation of Florida Statute section 316.614(4).After pulling Johnson over, Officer Garriga observed a strong odor of marijuana coming from Johnson’s car. Officer Garriga immediately noted that Johnson was nervous and making furtive movements. Officer Garriga asked Johnson to stop moving erratically and provide him with his identification. An inquiry pursuant to the traffic stop followed. Officer Garriga asked whether Johnson had “anything” in his car, a routine question aimed at both officer safety and crime intervention. Johnson admitted that hedid not have a concealed weapons permit and further explained that the firearm was not securedas required by law. 2 Officer Garriga asked that Johnson sit in the back of his patrol car while he obtained Johnson’s receipt for the firearm. 3 Inexplicably, and for reasons we can only speculate, Johnson shoved Officer Garriga in the chest and jumped headfirst into his car toward the very gun he had just described to Officer Garriga. Officer Garriga dove after Johnson to prevent him from accessing the gun. During the struggle, Johnson placed the car in drive and crashed through a fence into a nearby yard, dragging Officer Garriga along the way. While Officer Garriga was inside the car struggling with Johnson,the struggle turned deadly when Johnson grasped his gun and lifted the gun toward Officer Garriga’s face. Officer Garriga immediately tried to hide behind Johnson’s head, to avoid being shot. Officer Garriga pushed himself out of the car and, believing Johnson was armed, fired until Johnson no longer posed a threat. The Ogden Police Department, UT, released multiple body camera of traffic stop for not wearing a seat belt that end in fatal crash that occurred July 21, 2020. On July 21, an Ogden officer stopped Franklin’s vehicle near 26th street and Monroe Blvd for a seat belt violation. The officer subsequently discovered the plates on the car did not match the vehicle’s registration. The officer ask Franklin to get out of the vehicle to impound the vehicle but he refuse and drive off with an officer half inside and half outside the car dragging him until the car slept and the officer was ejected. "All (the officer) was going to do was cite the driver, release him and impound the vehicle. When he approached the vehicle, tried to inform him that, Mr. Franklin decided to argue about it, Police Chief Randy Watt. The officer was injured but not seriously. “The officer, fortunately, was close to the grass strip and he landed in the grass strip,” suffering scrapes and abrasions, Watt said. Than Franklin drove off again to crash head-on in an officer vehicle that was in another traffic stop.
