We start our Augsburg tour at the Augsburger Dom and visit the cathedral for a look inside. Next we stroll through the Hofgarten which is a nice little oasis in the historical old town.
As we head South we enter the city centre visa the city market into the shopping streets. There in the centre we walk around a bit to see side streets before we go further South to the Augsburger Zeughaus and Königsplatz.
The tour continues towards the inner city going to the central Rathausplatz with renaissance buildings like Augsburg's Town Hall.
For the last part we walk out of the centre again North-East to the the "Fuggerei". Founded in 1516 by Jakob Fugger the Younger, the Fugger banking dynasty ran the world's oldest social housing complex for needy citizens of Augsburg, which is walled and still in use. We spend a good 10 minutes there before we end our Augsburg walking tour.
Today we explore the Hanseatic City of Hamburg on a sunny winter day. As the second largest city of Germany behind Berlin, Hamburg is home to Europe's third-largest port and has a nice city centre.
We walk from near the central station to the inner city and head towards the impressive Town Hall. From there we walk around several central streets and sights like Alsterarkaden. We end the walk at the Elbpromenaden with a view to the tourist ferries and Elbphilharmonie.
The first news dates back to the year 1000 when the castle was owned by a deacon, a certain Moisè. In 1243 it was occupied by Ezzelino III da Romano, the latter indicated by a bull of Pope Nicolò IV as the rebuilder of the complex, which was then in an unhappy state of conservation.
Dated June 27, 1289, a document attests to a donation to Alberto I della Scala and his descendants by the pontiff, grateful to the Scaliger for their capture, in Sirmione, of a large group of heretics "patarini". The object of the donation was "the tower with the palace and the rubble that is said to remain from the said castle, with all the rights and its appurtenances as they are known to belong to the Roman Church".
Private property of the della Tavola during the 13th century, in 1269 the castle was occupied by Pulcinella delle Carceri, fighting with Mastino I della Scala, who used it as his refuge. The following year the statute known as Albertino records the deed of sale of the complex by Umberto della Tavola to Alberto I della Scala together with the Soave castle and other fortresses. The complex received new vigor and various consolidation works from the Scala family. In 1280 a Paduan incursion left him the signs of his passage.
More serious, however, were the damage caused by the return of the Venetian troops (1405) sent to you to snatch the castle from the da Carrara family, allied with Guglielmo, the last of the illegitimate children of Cangrande della Scala. The captain of the Carrarese troops, realizing that the Illasians were in favor of returning the fortress to Dominanate, set fire to the manor which suffered serious injuries.
The castle returned to being a theater of war in 1439. On 28 March of that year Nicolò Piccinino, a famous captain of fortune in the service of Filippo Maria Visconti, placed the tents at Illasi, after inflicting a severe defeat on the Venetian troops and occupied the Soave castle.
